Heidi’s hat…not like the others.

She’s collected a few Labour of Wild pieces over time, and she’s never been one to play it safe. Always pushing things a little further, a little more expressive.

This one pushed me too.

We knew we wanted to bring the kea into it. Not just for the colour, but for what it holds. Growing up skiing, spending time high in the mountains, that sense of space and freedom tied to those birds.

The challenge was figuring out how to capture that without making it too literal.

What to show. What to hold back. How to let it feel like a kea without painting the whole story out in full.

Somewhere along the way it turned into one of those pieces where every detail matters. Every line, every decision.

Layered, textured, a little bit wild.

Easily one of my favourites to date… and not one I handed over lightly.

I’ll share more of the Kea process soon, because the journey to get here was half the story.

Follow along if you want to see how it came together.
