Love this! The Northern Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club have some really helpful show explanations and tips for anyone wanting to learn more.
I still get caught out at times with the triangle 😆 have learnt to make sure I watch the people in the ring before me to see what they are doing!

🐾💙 NEW TO SHOWING? LET’S TALK TRIANGLES! 💙🐾
If you’ve never stepped into a show ring before, hearing a judge say “Can you please do a triangle?” might have you thinking… a what?! 😂
Don’t worry — it’s much simpler than it sounds!
The triangle is a movement pattern that allows the judge to see your Stafford moving from three different perspectives:
🐾 1 — Move Away: Walk your Stafford straight away from the judge so they can assess the rear movement.
🐾 2 — Across: Turn and move straight across the ring, allowing the judge to see your Stafford in profile.
🐾 3 — Return: Turn again and come straight back towards the judge so they can assess your Stafford’s front movement.
That’s it — you’ve done a triangle! 👏
There’s no need to race around the ring or panic about doing everything perfectly. Your job is simply to keep your Stafford moving comfortably at a steady pace and give the judge the best opportunity to assess their movement, balance and overall conformation.
And this is exactly the sort of thing we mean when we say NSBTC committee members are prepared to help newcomers learn.
If you've got a papered Stafford and have thought about entering our upcoming Specialty Shows but the idea of showing feels intimidating, please don't let not knowing what to do stop you.
We can teach you this. 💙
Triangles, up-and-backs, stacking, where to stand, what happens during judging, what to take with you on show day — none of us walked into our first show already knowing it all.
🐾 All you need is you and your Stafford. We can help with the rest.
