Geoff’s “I’d Actually Use This” Pick

A good year-end gift should still make sense once January starts.

This week’s pick is the A5 Weekly Diary 2027. It’s practical for people who still like seeing the week on paper, keeping appointments in one place, taking notes and planning without opening another app.

It’s not a throwaway gift. It’s the kind of thing that can sit on a desk, go to meetings, and quietly get used all year.

Good for client thank-yous, staff gifts, planning days, workshops, school admin, club committees, and anyone who still prefers a diary they can actually write in.

Question: would your audience use this more for work, appointments, or planning?

Reply with who it’s for and roughly how many you need. We can help with the branding layout and mock it up first.

There is a reason I usually create a digital mock-up before sending an order through for the official supplier proof.

It helps us check the idea before it moves too far down the track.

Is the logo sitting in the right place?
Does the size look right?
Does the branding suit the product?
Is the placement practical?
Does the overall look match what we are trying to achieve?

That first mock-up is not the final production proof. It is the early check.

Once that is looking right, the supplier creates the official proof, which is the final checkpoint before production.

This matters because it is much easier to catch small issues early than try to fix them once everything has already moved further through the process.

❌ It is not about adding unnecessary steps.

✅ It is about reducing avoidable surprises.

Have a look through the promo website, see what catches your eye, then flick it through and I’ll help work out what actually makes sense.

Geoff’s “I’d Actually Use This” Pick

A Father’s Day gift does not need to be covered in “Dad” jokes to feel thoughtful.

This week’s pick is The Brew & Bite. Tea, something sweet, a vacuum flask, and an insulated cooler bag, all in one practical gift pack.

It works because it gives someone a proper pause, but the flask and bag can still be used long after Father’s Day.

Good for staff gifts, customer thank-yous, client gifts, settlement gifts, and practical Father’s Day promotions.

Question: would your audience use this more as a staff gift, client gift, or customer thank-you?

Reply with who it’s for and roughly how many you need. We can help with the branding layout and mock it up first.

It is not just the product.

It is how it is branded.

A drink bottle, notebook, pen, tote bag or piece of apparel might be a good product choice, but the wrong branding method can change the final result.

The same logo can look completely different depending on how it is applied.

Pad print.
Laser engraving.
Embroidery.
Digital print.
Debossing.
Transfer print.

Each method has its place, but they do not all suit every product, every logo, or every budget.

Some are better for fine detail.
Some are better for a permanent finish.
Some are better for full colour.
Some are better for apparel.
Some look more subtle and premium.
Some are simply more practical for the job.

That is why the branding method is not an afterthought.

It is part of choosing the right promotional merchandise in the first place.

Have a look through the promo website, see what catches your eye, then flick it through and I’ll help work out what product and branding method actually make sense.

Geoff’s “I’d Actually Use This” Pick

Father’s Day gift idea, but without the novelty clutter.

This week’s pick is the Reveal Circle Wireless Charger Set.

It is a compact charging set with a wireless charging lid and useful adapters inside, so it can live on a desk, in a work bag, or in the travel bag for when someone inevitably needs the cable they forgot.

Good for customer thank-yous, staff gifts, client gifts, and practical Father’s Day promotions.

Question: would your audience use this more at the desk, home office, or in the travel bag?

Reply with who it’s for and roughly how many you need. We can help with the branding layout and mock it up first.

Sometimes the product someone asks for is not the product I would recommend.

That can sound a bit backwards when you first hear it.

After all, if someone asks for a branded pen, drink bottle, notebook, tote bag or gift item, should I not just quote what they asked for?

Sometimes, yes.

But sometimes there is a better option.

✅ It might be better quality.
✅ It might suit the branding method more.
✅ It might work better for the people receiving it.
✅ It might last longer.
✅ It might represent the business more professionally.

And sometimes, the original option is cheaper, but not actually better value.

That is where experience matters.

My job is not to make you buy something you do not need. It is also not to agree with the first idea just because it is easy.

It is to help you choose promotional merchandise that makes sense for the goal, the audience, the budget and the way the product will be used.

Have a look through the promo website, see what catches your eye, then flick it through and I’ll help work out whether it is the right fit, or whether there is a better option.

Geoff’s “I’d Actually Use This” Pick

A Father’s Day gift does not need to be novelty to feel thoughtful.

This week’s pick is the Daily Grind Pack. It includes an insulated cooler bag, drink bottle, coffee cup, and a small treat, which makes it useful for workdays, site days, commuting, appointments, and anyone who takes lunch and coffee seriously.

It is the kind of gift that gets used after Father’s Day, which is the point.

Question: would your audience use this more for work, site days, or weekend sport?

Reply with who it’s for and roughly how many you need. We can help with the branding layout and mock it up first.

A small change that should make our promotional merchandise range much easier to find.

Our dedicated Promo Merch site now has a new address:

promo.thewhy.nz

Only the address has changed. You can still browse branded merchandise for your clients, staff, events and business gifting, supported by the same considered approach to choosing what is right for your purpose, audience and brand.

If you already know what you need, take a look through the range. If you are not sure where to begin, get in touch and we can help you narrow down the options.

Useful. Relevant. Remembered.

I do not usually send clients 25 promotional product options.

Not because there are not enough options.

There are thousands.

That is exactly the problem.

If I send someone a huge list of products, I have not really helped them. I have just handed the decision back to them and made the process feel harder.

The better place to start is with the reason behind the product.

Who is it for?
What is the goal?
When is it needed?
How do you want it to be used, kept, or remembered?

Once that is clear, the list usually gets much shorter.

Sometimes there is one product that fits the purpose really well. Sometimes there are two or three worth comparing. And sometimes the product someone originally had in mind is not the one I would recommend.

That is part of the process.

The goal is not to show you everything.

The goal is to help you choose something suitable.

Have a browse through the promo website, see what catches your eye, then flick it through and I’ll help narrow it down properly.

Do you have client gifts, staff welcome packs, an event or another promotional merchandise requirement coming up?

Our new Star Performers Edition 3 catalogue is now available, with 104 pages of branded merchandise ideas covering drinkware, bags, technology, business essentials, leisure products, apparel, packaging and more.

Use the catalogue for inspiration, but do not feel you need to work through all those options or make the decision alone.

If something catches your eye, send me the product name or page number and tell me what you are planning. I can help you narrow it down based on who it is for, how it will be used, your budget and when you need it.
