Still busy working on the Boro and Sashiko stitching kits and cutting up vintage kimono to use for the patches. I’m amazed at how beautifully hand stitched these old kimono are. Such quality fabrics even though they are so old.
I’ll be showing my stuff at Waikanae Market on Saturday from 9am.

I have also been busy putting together packs of vintage kimono fabrics threads and instructions for those crafty types who would love to have a go at slow Sashiko stitching their own jeans and jackets.

Been busy doing the traditional Sashiko too. The cushion is a Sashiko panel of dragonflies and the cushion cover is made from vintage kimono fabric. To give Sashiko a go I have put together some basic kits which give you some traditional sashiko template fabric squares for you to gain your experience. These kits have all you need with instructions. They are $35.00 too!

This is the cushion pack. All you need to have a go yourself.
The base fabric is shibori dyed denim with vintage kimono fabric patches, complementary coloured cotton threads and a needle There are instructions to guide you to have a go at Sashiko stitching your own vintage reworked cushion.

These and other items made from recycled kimonos will be at Southwards on Sunday 6th November 10-3pm. I have made some items for sale and have kits available for you to get into the mindful slow stitching of Sashiko and Boro patching using vintage kimonos and upcycled fabrics. come and check out the Kapiti Womens Expo.

Exhibitor Shoutout

"Reworked" will be selling vintage kimonos, Japanese fabrics, and reworked items made from recycled fabrics and clothing using the sewing techniques of Japanese Boro patchwork and Sashiko hand stitching. These have become quite popular in the last couple of years with people taking up mindful creative pastimes through Covid.

There will be Japanese fabric packs and sewing kits for those who want to try out the techniques for themselves
