Lorene Harris Dressmaking & Design Dressmaking, design and alterations service by Lorene Harris in Wellington, New Zealand. Welcome to Lorene Harris Dressmaking.

Dressmaking, design and alterations service in Wellington, New Zealand. I do repairs and alterations, pattern making, reproduction of your old favourites, basic tailoring and love to make dresses. If you are looking for something special, a ball dress, bridesmaids frock or bespoke wedding gown I would love to make up your pattern or original design. I work from my home in Karori, please email with

any enquiries. Turnaround times vary a lot during the year but generally its 1-2 weeks for alterations and 2-4 weeks for dressmaking, that said if I have time to do something urgently I'm always happy to do so. I've always loved to design and make things, I have been working in Wellington sewing and designing for 20 years first running a small fashion boutique Dandylion specialising in locally made fashion and accessories, then designing my label Love Love Lorelei. In the past few years I have been focusing on making bespoke items for clients and enjoying doing more challenging bridal design. You can contact me at [email protected] or message me here.

Missing summer! This simple linen shell top with button back was tailor drafted and fitted for one of my wonderful regular clients Margy, back in November. It’s a design you can easily buy but how often sizes over 12 have that gapey fabric at the front armholes!? Sometimes custom made is a really nice treat.

Simple cotton blouse made this past summer, I’m really happy with how the pattern matching and buttons came out on this one. It takes me so much longer to lay and cut out prints- even very simple ones like this, if you want everything to line up.

A silk blouse made earlier this year with subtle ruffle sleeves. Every now and then a client will bring along some fabric they got years back, on a trip or from a hand me down stash. This silk was tucked away for years after a trip to Japan, and the inspiration finally struck to make something lovely out of it. What’s your fabric stash like? I’d love to help make something wearable that’s been hiding away and have lots of free spots for June.

Here’s a simple woven cotton tee made for one of my regular clients, with ribbing neck detail and side splits. Figuring out what colours should go where when working with a check or geometric print is always my first step with something like this. I love the way it all came together.

Happy New year to everyone, and warm wishes to everyone getting married this wedding season. I’ve been working on a few wedding dresses as well as the usual alterations, school uniforms and summer tops typical of January. Congrats to Ella and husband who got married in a holiday season wedding at the botanical gardens. I made this dress from scratch for Ella with duchess satin and layers of sparkling organza. I adore the back of this add on piece and this gorgeous photo. It was a bit of engineering to get it to be functional and easily removable, and I’m so pleased it worked out great on the big day. Photography by .nz

This gown had 3 potential looks, look 1 - an off the shoulder lace piece that snapped into place on the front dress neckline, swipe to see look 2- dress with sweetheart neckline and separate lace sleeves. Look 3 would be simple and strapless. Getting the light mesh for the off the shoulder lace section to fit and snap in place without any wrinkles was a bit tricky but after a bit of trial and error worked out great! Congrats you two! 🎊Photography by .nz
