What does Pallay Kene mean?

Choosing this name was no accident; it's a declaration of respect for the two most impressive artistic and textile expressions of our ancient history.

On one hand, EL PALLAY: A Quechua word meaning to gather or harvest. Here, surrounded by the majesty of the imperial region, El Pallay is that ancestral language woven by hand by high Andean artisans. Each thread tells the story of our mountains, stars, and emotions. It is the earth itself made into fabric.

On the other hand, EL KENÉ: The vibrant soul of the Shipibo-Konibo people. The women of the Amazon don't create simple geometric lines; they give form to music. El Kené is the visual representation of the íkaros (shamanic chants), true spiritual maps of the cosmos that heal and protect, captured on fabrics and ceramics.

At Pallay Kene, we operate right at the crossroads of these two worlds. We are a bridge. We harness the power of the Andean harvest (Pallay) to embrace, preserve, and share with the world the sacred song (Kené) of the rainforest.

¿Qué significa Pallay Kene?

Elegir este nombre no fue casualidad; es una declaración de respeto por las dos expresiones artísticas y textiles más imponentes de nuestra historia milenaria.

Por un lado, EL PALLAY: Una palabra quechua que significa recoge o cosechar. Aquí, rodeados de la majestuosidad de la región imperial, El Pallay es ese lenguaje ancestral tejido a mano por maestras altoandinas. Cada hilo cuenta la historia de nuestras montañas, estrellas y emociones. Es la tierra misma hecha tejido.

Por el otro, El KENÉ: El alma vibrante del pueblo Shipibo-Konibo. Las mujeres de la Amazonía no hacen simples líneas geométricas; ellas materializan la música. El Kené es la representación visual de los íkaros (cantos chamánicos), verdaderos mapas espirituales del cosmos que sanan y protegen, plasmados en telas y cerámicas.

En Pallay Kene, operamos justo en el cruce de estos dos mundos. Somos un puente. Tomamos la fuerza de la "cosecha" andina (Pallay) para abrazar, preservar y mostrar al mundo el "canto sagrado" (Kené) de la selva.

Within the Shipibo-Konibo culture, women are responsible for transmitting ancestral knowledge. They develop ceramics and textiles.

The Lineage of Design: The teaching of Kené (traditional Mapuche art) begins in childhood. Mothers apply drops of medicinal plants, such as piri-piri, to the eyes of young girls to "cleanse their vision" so they can "see" the designs in their minds before drawing them.

Livelihood and Leadership: Today, women artisans are social leaders and a fundamental part of their communities' economy. Through their associations, they maintain the autonomy of their villages and protect their territory from external influences.

Traditional Clothing: The "Chitunti"
Clothing is not just clothes; it is a declaration of principles. The most iconic garment is the Chitunti, a wrap skirt that is a masterpiece of geometry.

The Chitunti Skirt: It is usually made of white or dark-colored cotton fabric, dyed with mud. It is entirely embroidered or painted with Kené patterns. The designs are often labyrinthine, representing river paths and spiritual connections.

The Coton Blouse: It is made of vibrant, solid colors—fuchsia, yellow, electric blue. It is characterized by lace appliqués and rows of silver coins or metal buttons that hang from it, which jingle when walking, according to tradition, warding off evil spirits.

Dentro de la Cultura Shipibo-Konibo, la mujer es la encargada de transmitir el conocimiento ancestral. La mujer desarrolla la cerámica y el textil.

​El Linaje del Diseño: La enseñanza del Kené empieza desde la infancia. Las madres aplican gotas de plantas medicinales, como el piri-piri en los ojos de las niñas para "limpiar su visión" y que puedan "ver" los diseños en su mente antes de trazarlos.

​Sustento y Liderazgo: Hoy en día, las mujeres artesanas son líderes sociales y parte fundamental en la economía de sus comunidad. A través de sus asociaciones, mantienen la autonomía de sus pueblos y protegen su territorio frente a influencias externas.

Dentro de ello también está ​La Vestimenta Tradicional: El "Chitunti"
​La vestimenta no es solo ropa; es una declaración de principios. La prenda más icónica es el Chitunti, una falda envolvente que es una obra maestra de la geometría.

​La Falda Chitunti: Suele ser de tela de algodón blanca o de colores oscuros, teñida con barro. Está bordada o pintada íntegramente con patrones Kené. Los trazos suelen ser laberínticos, representando los caminos de los ríos y las conexiones espirituales.
​La Blusa Coton: Es de colores vibrantes y sólidos, fucsia, amarillo, azul eléctrico. Se caracteriza por tener aplicaciones de encaje y hileras de monedas de plata o botones de metal que cuelgan, los cuales suenan al caminar, alejando según la tradición a los malos espíritus.
