🌊 When the passion for surfing is passed down from father to child

For a very long time, the history of surfing was written by both men and women through the lens of athletic performance and incredible feats. Children, on the other hand, rode the waves out of the spotlight, far from the photographers' lenses.

But times are changing. Today, a new wave is sweeping across the ocean: that of modern fathers, fully invested in their little ones' upbringing and playtime. The surfboard has now become a family playground where the thrill of the glide is shared between two, three, and sometimes even the family dog!

It’s this beautiful evolution that I wanted to capture in my watercolor "Nouvelles pères-formances" (a play on words for "New Father-formances"), created for the Hōrue exhibition.

In this symbolism-filled composition:
✨ The pahua (giant clam) sits in the barrel of the wave like a benevolent shell, illustrating that essential cocoon of safety needed to give the youngest surfers confidence in the water.
🗿 The smiling tiki of Utukua, whose silhouette curiously resembles a surfboard, watches over the background as the protective guardian of this passing of the torch.
A true celebration of fatherhood, family bonding, and the future of hōru'e (surfing)! 🎨🌺
