Only someone completely detached from reality would dare say that ₱500 can feed a family of four. That kind of statement doesn’t come from leaders, it comes from people who have no idea what hunger feels like and don’t care to learn. They don’t live with consequences; they live with bodyguards and catered meals.
They throw numbers around like they’re talking about loose change, while ordinary Filipinos scrape together coins just to buy a few pieces of ulam.
They call it “budgeting.” No, it’s not budgeting. It’s an insult. It’s the kind of insult you can only say when you’re sure you’ll never experience the same suffering.
The people in power sit at tables overflowing with food paid for by the same citizens they lecture. They preach discipline to families who haven’t eaten properly in days. They talk about resilience because it’s easier than admitting they’ve abandoned the very people they’re supposed to protect.
They turn hunger into a talking point. They turn poverty into a PR line.
Meanwhile, families are forced to choose between rice and medicine, between eating today or saving for tomorrow.
Let’s stop pretending this is an innocent mistake. It’s not cluelessness — it’s cruelty. It’s a message delivered straight to the faces of the poor:
“Your hunger is acceptable. Your suffering is convenient. As long as you keep quiet, we’ll keep ignoring you.”
This isn’t about Christmas, budgeting tips, or simple living.
This is the reality: the government expects Filipinos to survive on miracles because they refuse to fix the mess they created.
And the moment people stop swallowing their pride along with their hunger, that’s when those in power will finally feel something they’ve avoided for too long — accountability.
