Elegant Batwing Blouses.
The name "batwing" aptly describes the look of the sleeve design which resembles a pair of bat wings. The batwing shirt is made with sleeves that are cut very deep and wide at the shoulder. The armholes of the shirt extend almost to the waist. Rather than have a sleeve that is shaped to the arm like a cylinder, the underarm portion of the shirt is dropped lower, toward the waist. While wearing a batwing shirt, if a woman extends her arms, it would create a triangle-like silhouette, or the appearance of a bat’s wings.
There are versions with varying sleeve lengths. A long sleeve batwing shirt with be tapered toward the wrist. The short sleeved version is not tapered to the arm, however, creating a very flowy, breezy look.
The elegant batwing look that is being replicated most frequently amongst a range of modern high end fashion labels and independent designers is one that creates a very loose fitted, flowing look. Short sleeve batwing shirts are untapered and have very full sleeves and a loose fit. The design is one that pairs well a fitted bottom. The skinny jean and leggings certainly have a current place with the untapered batwing shirt. Likewise, the thinner drapey fabrics can enhance a slim look by being paired with a tight-fitting shirt underneath during colder months.
