Topskill Handicrafts is wholly owned and operated by Mrs. As a young wife Graal landed a job at the noted Easter Weaving Room. It was there that her true vocation found its beginnings. Graal was enraptured by the endless possibilities that handwoven offered. Being a native of Bontoc, she readily internalized the art and skill of the loom. Eventually she became the Manager of IMA Designs, a company
specializing in Ikat dyeing and weaving. Challenged by the tought that there must be a means by which the combination of traditional lines, colours and Ikat weave would appeal to the young Igorot and not just be confined to the usual household use, Graal Cawed in 1993 decided to set out on her own to conduct experiments in design. Today, though still a young and modest outfit, Topskill is equated to quality handwoven products and ethnic inspired clothing which alluringly blend the enduring sense of tradition and the soft practicality of the contemporary. From the simple bands to elaborate wedding gowns, Topskill fusion's of colors and fabric truly captures the free spirit of the modern Igorot. Inevitably, the monogramic figures, the Ikat touch, and the color lines are all evident in Topskill products ranging from household accompaniments to clothing accessories and fashion creations. Over the recent years, Topskill's scarves, barong tagalog, and wedding ensembles have created a fashion statement that is taking hold of the Cordilleras and is now creating a stir amongst the Igorot and Cordilleran Communities outside of the country. Her small shop at the 5th floor of the Porta Vaga Mall in Session Rd. has often become a shopping stop of balikbayans and appreciative words and phrases are often heard. Truly Graal Cawed's vision is gradually taking shape and the young Igorot of the modern and challenging world now sports the traditional weave and colors with pride and honor. With topskill the ethnic and spirit of countless generations continue to linger and soar.
