AGENCY OR DIRECT CLIENT? WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
When I first started my freelancing journey,
I only had one clear goalโ get a client fast. Any client.
I didnโt care if it was through an agency or a direct hire.
I just wanted to land my first VA job.
Then I started hearing all these takes:
๐ค Direct clients pay more!
๐ค Agencies have time trackers!
๐ค Agencies give you stability!
๐ค But agencies also take a cut
As a newbie, I had no idea what to choose.
And so, I tried both.
I landed my first direct client, and just two weeks later, I secured a client from two agencies as well.
And hereโs what I learned:
โ
Agencies are a good starting point if you lack experience because they provide free trainings before they match you with a client
โ
Direct clients give you more freedom to set your rates and schedule.
โ
No matter where you find clients, your skills and confidence matter most.
โ
Agencies often require time trackers, so if you want flexibility, they may not be the best fit.
โ
Direct clients usually pay more, but getting paid on time can be a challenge.
โ
Agencies protect you from scammers and non-paying clients, while working with direct clients means you need to be more cautious.
โ
If youโre not comfortable negotiating, agencies handle that for you.
โ
The more skills you build, the easier it is to move from agency to direct clients.
So, which one is better? It really depends on your priorities and what you value most in your freelancing journey.
At the end of the day, thereโs no one-size-fits-all answer. Both agencies and direct clients have their pros and cons.
What really matters is knowing what works best for you.
