A Tribute to the Higaonon Art of Weaving

MANUNULAM, meaning weaver, is my tribute to the Higaonon weaving tradition—a celebration of heritage, artistry, and the remarkable women whose hands keep this ancestral craft alive.

Inspired by the beauty of handwoven traditions, this creation transforms the language of habi, hibla, and indigenous craftsmanship into contemporary fashion. Every detail carries a story: of ancestry, identity, resilience, and a culture that continues to live through the hands of its weavers.

More than a garment, MANUNULAM is a statement of empowerment. It honors the women who preserve our traditions while creating opportunities for their artistry to reach beyond their communities. Their hands do not simply weave materials; they weave history, dignity, livelihood, and hope for generations to come.

As a designer from Mindanao, I believe our indigenous heritage deserves a place on the world stage. Through fashion, I seek to bridge tradition and modernity, allowing the richness of Higaonon craftsmanship and Mindanaoan identity to be appreciated not only locally, but globally.

Before the crown, there was the gown. 🌹

In a striking crimson hue, the fitted bodice speaks of strength and confidence, while the dramatic mermaid skirt captures the grace and power of a woman in her becoming.

Today, that woman wears the crown as Miss Cagayan de Oro 2026 – carrying with her the spirit of the Bulawanong Lamano: the strength to lead, the warmth to welcome, and a hand always ready to serve.

More than couture, this has been a gown of power with a crown of honor and a bulawanong lamano from the heart.

Inspired by the devastating Tropical Storm Sendong that struck Cagayan de Oro in 2011, this crimson couture gown symbolizes both the fury of nature and the resilience of the Kagay-anon spirit. The fitted bodice represents strength and unwavering courage, while the dramatic pleated mermaid skirt mirrors the powerful currents that once swept through the city. Its vibrant red hue embodies the pain, sacrifice, and hope that emerged from tragedy, transforming loss into a story of unity, recovery, and perseverance.

More than a fashion piece, this gown is a tribute to the survivors of Sendong-- a reminder that even after the darkest storms, Cagayan de Oro continues to rise stronger, braver, and more beautiful than ever. 🌹💫

Envision a breathtaking silver gown for Miss Camiguin, embodying the island's crystal-clear waters through its fluid design and luminous details. The fitted, mermaid silhouette flows gracefully into a soft train, echoing the ocean's gentle yet powerful movements. Crafted from metallic silver fabric layered with sheer tulle, the gown achieves a liquid-glass effect, as if moonlight has wrapped itself around the body. The bodice shines with precision-cut crystals, sequins, and beads in ripple patterns, mimicking the dance of sunlight and moonlight on Camiguin's waters. This design adds depth with natural hues reminiscent of the island. The overall effect is one of sophisticated fluidity, capturing the serene strength and purity of Camiguin's waters in silver.
