Nanay Earlie In a journey to healing and becoming a calm mom. Mothering boys. Pursuing natural wellness lifestyle.
(1)

Hi, I am Nanay Earlie and I was a breastfeeding, babywearing, cloth diapering and co-sleeping mom for 8 years. I continue to advocate these natural parenting practices even after closing my business, Nanay at Ako Boutique. I am now more into the natural wellness lifestyle through essential oils and I know that can also share value from this journey. I believe that moms can support fellow moms in m

any ways and are great resource to each other. That's why I am still here sharing our journey with all of you so we can all learn from each other.

Bakit pwede ang highchair pero "bawal" ang hipseat? 🤔
Hindi naman totally bawal ang hipseat. It just doesn't give the best support when it comes to babywearing hence BWP does not encourage hipseat use because there are a lot of better options available now.

Check the infographic below for details and if you're interested in learning more on babywearing and trying out different TYPES & BRANDS of carriers, the BWP Sling Library will be open for our celebration! 🩷

"Madami namang mas mura online! Halos kamukha din ng mga recommended brands."

So why are we so adamant on recommending safety-tested brands? What sets these carriers apart?

1️⃣ QUALITY - Safety-testing is not just about the durability of a carrier, but also ensuring that it's free from harmful substances that it may come into contact with during production. Subpar factories can make cheap carriers because there are no quality & sanitation protocols. All parts of a safety-tested carrier, even down to the stitches, are evaluated to pass testing.

2️⃣ WARRANTY - There may be instances where a safety-tested carrier can have issues (loose stitch, defective buckles, etc) but most of the time, these can be resolved by reaching out to the brand. Some companies even send a brand new replacement as long as it falls within the warranty policy. You won't get this customer service with untested carriers since they usually have a window of only 7 days or none at all.

3️⃣ ACCOUNTABILITY - A "good" baby brand holds themself to a higher standard since they are making products intended for babies. Most of our PH based carrier brands even offer free fit consultations so you can use your carrier correctly and safely.

4️⃣ PEACE OF MIND - We recently posted about the dangers of untested carriers and a parent shared their experience of one such carrier that suddenly unbuckled and baby fell on the pavement. :( Thank goodness baby was brought to the ER immediately and was assessed to be ok but the panic and worry the parents experienced must've been unimaginable. While these instances may be rare, the risks can definitely be reduced with safety-tested carriers.

We fully acknowledge that parents will always have the freedom to choose what is best for their babies and that we are here as guides only.
That is why we do not force our advocacy on anyone but we will always be open to help parents who seek guidance on safe, ergonomic and proper babywearing. 🩷

Nasa stage na kami ng maiiksing sagot, "It's good. It's fine. It's ok." Kaya if we don't ask the right questions, we may never know what actually is going on.

I am glad that the other day, nagkwento talaga siya kung ano nangyari sa Math test, at sinabi rin niya yung feelings na about it. My questions were specific: "What happened in the Math test? How do you feel about it? What can you do better next time?"

His answers were on point, too: I am upset, I didn't get to finish it. My classmates didn't want to finish their test and the teacher asked us to submit our papers already. I wanted to continue but they were noisy, I was distracted. Next time, I will practice more math problems at home so I will be quicker to finish.

What's your parenting style?

Carrier use has been increasing in popularity but did you know that some carriers may potentially be dangerous for your baby?
All the carriers pictured below have not undergone proper safety-testing certifications to ensure that the materials used in the making of the product are durable enough to carry a baby's weight and if they are free from harmful substances like lead & BPA's which may be found in substandard factories.
Since there is no law regulating the sale of baby carriers, sellers can easily slap on words like "recommended by doctors," "safety-tested," "ergonomic" "newborn to toddler" without verifiable proof.

More info for each carrier:
A. Fabric is very thin and not enough to support a baby's weight. Very difficult to get a good fit and shows unsafe carrying positions that may result to fall & suffocation risks.
B. Flimsy materials that are prone to breakage. Non-ergonomic because it forces baby's body opposite the M position which is most ideal for babies.
C. Same issue with materials and this position is an asphyxiation risk especially for young infants. Babies should be close enough to kiss and in full view when in a carrier.

We know some may say, "I know people who have these carriers with no issues at all!"
But the problem here is that these carriers will always have increased RISKS when used. Just because it worked for others doesn't remove the possibility of these carriers compromising the safety of your baby. Know that these carriers are sold cheap because they are made cheap. Our babies deserve better especially now that sound and well-documented information is readily available to us.

There are now options available to the PH market that can support your baby's body and your body too in a safe and ergonomic manner without breaking the bank. Always feel free to reach out to us at Babywearing Philippines if you need help in choosing a baby carrier as we'd love to help you jumpstart your babywearing journey. 🩷
