For my piece inspired by Hawaii, I chose to move away from the usual floral motifs and instead drew inspiration from a childhood memory — a Hawaiian Sunrise Shell my dad brought home as a souvenir when I was in grade school. 🐚
The Sunrise Shell (Langford's Pecten, Decatopecten noduliferum) is a rare and vibrant scallop shell found only in the Hawaiian Islands. I was particularly drawn to the blue variant, often called the Moonrise Shell — exceptionally rare, unique, and deeply valued by collectors.
The gown’s bodice reflects the elegant curves and texture of the shell, while the skirt captures the graceful silhouette of a woman. Together, they embody strength and softness, rarity and beauty — brought to life so gracefully by Dixie.
