MARIA CLARA
Established on August 2019 by two Davaoeno Designers - Jun and Emil. The brand continues to pivot on using repurposed materials that are considered trash like "RETASO". The advocacy aims to promote circular fashion by utilizing materials that are bound to be thrown and possible ground for excessive waste.
For this collection, KARGA used materials that is widely used in the wedding industry such as laces, silk faille, and duchess satin. Since the designer is working a lot in creating garments for special events like weddings. Thus, the excess materials are the current material concentration for this 9-piece limited capsule collection.
The collection was inspired by the Baro’t Saya, a national attire of the Philippines during the Spanish colonization. The attire was mainly composed of top, skirt and a kerchief or Panuelo. On special gatherings, women add hand fan or Abanico, alongside with its use, hand fan is also used to create gestures.
The 9-piece collection revisits the vibrant Spanish clothing style of the Filipinos and the stories that lies in it. Hence, the bags with different laces, bias tapes, and colorful silks that are considered scraps was utilized.
In lieu with the advocacy of the brand to utilized repurposed materials or Retaso. The fashion industry has been a big contributor to the waste production. The creative director has been living and working with his parents, and established their atelier in 1994. He saw that the uniform manufacturing business produced more waste each day. Until the day that he was able to work in the wedding garments, he was able to create beautifully handcrafted wedding gowns. Thus, the creation of the brand.
