SPIRITUAL POVERTY

As a personal finance advocate, I’ve always emphasized people’s responsibility and accountability for their financial journey. Anyone can have the opportunity to change his life’s course and shift to abundance with enough commitment and grit. There is danger in believing that poverty can be a virtue, and that it can be justified because of a future heavenly reward. While it is true that money cannot buy you happiness, poverty cannot buy you anything.

What we need to openly acknowledge is our inner poverty. In accepting our frail humanity, we need God and we have to trust and have faith in His love. The power to create wealth comes from Him. No matter how rich a man is or can be, he must align his purpose with the Lord to have genuine fulfillment in life. It is emancipating to believe that all we own comes from Him and we are His stewards in this world. As we obey to love Him and our fellowmen, we are tasked to reach our potential and openly share our abundance. It’s only then that wealth can be meaningful. Rex Mendoza ([email protected])

📌Title: A Boy and His Cookies📌

“For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” – Luke 11:10 (NABRE)

Our four-year-old son wants another butter cookie after a string of other desserts. We prefer him to have fruits, but a fresh box of lengua de gato is just too tempting. He asks for another piece and doesn’t take no for an answer. I signal to my husband to just give in.

“If you can read it, you can have it,” he replies. Our son just started learning letter sounds in school so it is surely challenging. If he gives up, he can have fruits instead.
He leaves quietly but we hear him sounding out letters in the dining room. “Lll-eee-nnn-ggg-uuu-aaa.” He returns shortly and says, “Lengua!” He gets the cookie he asked for, feels proud of himself, and amazes us with his determination and the power of cookies.

Sometimes, what we ask from the Lord comes easy. Oftentimes, the process requires a display of perseverance. Perhaps God is using your waiting time for you to discover untapped potential.
