Throwback to some of the plant-dyed colors we’ve created over the years since 2020.

I am forever grateful and deeply humbled by the opportunity to work with nature and witness the wonder it brings in the process. Each phase is a learning journey, and I don’t think there will ever be a time I can call myself an expert, never at anything. There’s always something new to learn, unlearn, and discover, and this has remained one of my grounding philosophies in both life and art.

Being in a new environment now comes with its own challenges and doubts. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to produce the same colors again, but there’s hope in exploring new materials and embracing the excitement of what they might bring. Katawhayan has always been shaped by its environment, as well as the migratory process of moving from one place to another, ever since back in the Philippines, and the ingenuity brought about by scarcity, in the spirit of disponeering, by making the most of available resources.

They have brought both difficulties and curiosities, from limitations of space, financial freedom, the capacity to take risks etc., yet it has also taught me how to thrive amidst conditions, adapt creatively, and find joy in the process. Even in constraints, there is growth, discovery, and resilience, and I continue to trust in a force bigger than me and anything else, for what lies ahead. God willing.

To everyone who has purchased or interacted with us, we would love to hear from you! Thank you so much for all your support.
