The Story Behind Creative Mammie PH
I have a friend whose older brother was a tailor in our community. Since he mostly sewed gowns, he often had leftover pieces of fabric, and one day, my friend gave some of those fabric scraps to me. I can't clearly remember if I was already learning how to sew at that time, but what I do remember is that I immediately started sewing the fabrics I received.
Most of the materials were satin, so I began thinking of products that would suit that type of fabric. While doing some research, I discovered scrunchies. At first, the scrunchies I made were simply samples that I gave away as gifts to my godchildren, friends, and party guests. I did this for quite some time, and it always made me happy whenever I saw people wearing something I had created with my own hands.
Fast forward to today, I saw an opportunity to turn my hobby into something more. I designed my first logo myself using Canva. Later on, it was refreshed with the help of ChatGPT, but one thing remained the same—the message that our products are made from "discarded fabrics" given a second life.
It brings me joy to see how Creative Mammie PH has grown. What started as leftover fabric and a simple idea has become one of my sources of extra income. Along with creating scrunchies, I also do clothing repairs, alterations, and various sewing projects that showcase what Creative Mammie PH can do.
Every stitch tells a story— started from a simple gift and a desire to create, not just of creativity, but of sustainability, resourcefulness, and turning something that might have been thrown away into something beautiful and useful.
