Tips on how to make baby sleep longer at night based on experience: ๐โญ๏ธ๐ด
1. Lights ๐ก๐ช๐ฏ
During day time, room should be bright while on night time, room should have dimmed light.
2. Noise/Sound๐๐ถ
Common noise during day is okay, you can play your favorite songs while during night play your lullabies.
3. Clothes๐งฆ๐๐
Make sure baby is comfortable based on room temperature, not too hot nor too cold. Swaddle can help during night time but swaddle is not recommended for babies who knew how to roll.
4. Feed๐ผ๐ผ
Baby should not be hungry. Offer pacifier but don't force it. Make him burped between feeds.
5. Bath๐
Baby should be comfortable, bath will make him fresh. Make sure diaper is cleaned. For us, no fancy lotion, oil or balm, simple bath with baby soap is enough.
6. Bed ๐
No toys on bed or any pillows. Bed should be flat. No pillows for head so he can freely move his head and neck side to side. Donโt use weighted blankets, sleepers, or swaddles on or around your baby.
7. Rocking๐คฑ
If you rock your baby to sleep before bedtime, then he will expect to be rocked to sleep after nighttime awakenings. Instead, try putting your baby into bed while drowsy but still awake. This way baby will learn to fall asleep on their own.
8. No to Eye to Eye ๐
Baby even cries a little before falling back to sleep on their own. Unless you think that your baby is hungry, ill, want diaper change or needs to burp, see what happens if you leave your baby alone for a few minutes โ he might settle down. No to eye to eye, for sure he will be awakened.
9. Routine ๐คฑ๐งโ๐ผ
Established sleeping schedule. If your baby wakes during the period that you want them to sleep, keep activity to a minimum. Resist the urge to play with or talk to your baby. Make small changes which may allow a slight shift in schedule.
P.S.
It may take a few nights to establish this routine, but being consistent will improve your chances of success. ๐
