𝗔𝗙𝗙𝗦-𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗖𝗙𝗡𝗥 𝗔𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝗶 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁 🌱

The Association of Filipino Forestry Students – UPLB warmly welcomed its alumni and fellow CFNR graduates at the CFNR Administration Building for the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗖𝗙𝗡𝗥 𝗔𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝗶 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁, April 24.

The exhibit highlighted the organization’s 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, alongside its latest 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮 feature showcasing three endemic Philippine species — reflecting AFFS-UPLB’s continued commitment to biodiversity awareness and conservation.

As part of this year’s CFNR Alumni Homecoming themed “𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀,” the exhibit stands as a testament to the shared efforts of students and alumni in advancing forestry education, community engagement, and climate action.

🪡 𝐀 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐧

The Philippines is a tapestry of life, shaped by time, ecology, and evolution. Its endemic and endangered species are the threads that hold this living fabric together.

𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐀𝐅𝐅𝐒-𝐔𝐏𝐋𝐁 proudly presents 𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬, a wearable collection inspired by flora unique to our islands:

𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐤 – An endangered, endemic medium-sized tree (16–20 m) found in Batangas, Mindoro, and Cavite. Inhabiting coastal forests and limestone ridges, it exhibits xerophytic traits, including specialized trichomes, to survive dry, marginal conditions.

𝐒𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐨 – An endangered, endemic tree often found in coastal or ultramafic soils in the northeastern Sierra Madre. One of the three Philippine ironwood species, it bears striking red flowers, sometimes flowering at less than 1 m tall, hence the epithet fruticosus, meaning bushy or shrubby.

𝐊𝐚𝐩𝐚-𝐤𝐚𝐩𝐚 – An endemic epiphytic shrub of the Melastomataceae family. Its small pink to coral-red flowers grow in grape-like clusters, and its succulent, four-angled stems often droop under the weight of its heavy inflorescences.
Each piece embodies a story of resilience, place, and identity.
