Sisters Ladybird and Hazel took up Zapateria’s apprenticeship program with one beautiful goal in mind; to create footwear specially made for children with special needs in the US.

Through every pattern, stitch, and sole, they carry not just skill, but heart. Stories like theirs remind us that shoemaking can go beyond fashion. It can become care, comfort, and empowerment for communities that need it most.

Designed by Thian Rodriguez, this collection carries warmth and movement, reflecting an evolving Filipina rooted in the craft, heritage and innovation.

From by DOST - PTRI to handmade footwear by Philippine Footwear Federation, Inc. shoemakers, Filipino textile is transformed into carefully crafted designs, carried forward with confidence.

SAFATOS Marikina is a community-led initiative, bringing together PFFI, PTRI and the Marikina City Government, with the creative vision of THIAN Rodriguez Manila, Alunsinag and Zapateria, alongside our partners and collaborators who helped bring this to life.

At its core, we recognize the PFFI manufacturers for this collection, namely Roweliza, Fontelle by Jakob and Zachy of Bob Mars shoes, whose skill and dedication brought these designs into reality. 🙌
