Cinema is the soul of the Filipino story, because through its lens, true creativity is seen by the naked eye. More than entertainment, it shapes the public eyeβs perception of reality, reflecting our struggles, triumphs, dreams, and identity as a people.
On September 12, 1919, history was made with the premiere of Jose Nepomucenoβs Dalagang Bukid, the very first feature film directed and produced by a Filipino. This groundbreaking moment marked the birth of Philippine cinema and ignited a creative legacy that continues to inspire and captivate audiences today.
The DTI Malikhaing Pinoy stands proudly with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in commemorating this rich tradition through the Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM), even as we celebrate the Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM). Together, we honor the artistry, culture, and boundless imagination of Filipino filmmakers.
Hereβs to 106 years of Filipino culture, artistry, and storytelling. Mabuhay ang Pelikulang Pilipino! π΅ππ₯
