Grail Pickers 90s meets Dubaiโ€™s finest Vcappers UAE!

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Chief Flip Austria for inviting us to witness such a special moment the baptism of your baby boy. It was not just a celebration of family, but also a reminder that our community goes beyond collecting.

We were also blessed to finally meet the humble yet passionate hardcore vcapper, Sir Jaime Caparas . Conversations like these remind us that this hobby isnโ€™t only about vintage pieces itโ€™s about the friendships we build, the stories we share, and the passion that unites us across borders.

Truly, we never expected our hobby to grow into something this meaningful. With the bonds we are forming, we are more excited than ever for the projects and memories we will create together. Hereโ€™s to strengthening our community and inspiring more collectors worldwide.

Russel Bautista Caraang, from San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, started in the cap game in 2016 with local brands like WIP Caps and New Era. But during the pandemic, he shifted to vintage hats after discovering Facebook live sellers and realizing the value and history behind each piece. He sold his local and New Era caps to fund his first vintage lineโ€”Notre Dameโ€”landing his first grail, the Notre Dame Big Logo, in 2020.

Originally, Russel aimed to complete a 3ร—3 trilogyโ€”Raiders, Kings, Sox in Pinstripes, Tailsweep, and TriPower. He finished the Kings set but struggled to find Raiders and Sox in excellent or deadstock condition, both eventually laying low, so he made a decision and pursue to collect the TriPower line. By the 3rd quarter of 2024, he officially started collecting TriPowerโ€”first the Sox from eBay, then the Kings from a Facebook post. Since then, heโ€™s been hunting the rarest ones and quality teams, following his motto: slowly but surely.

Collecting for Russel isnโ€™t about rushing or grabbing everything in sightโ€”itโ€™s about finding pieces with the right rarity, story, and condition. Like his journey at Notre Dame, being patient is important. He thinks carefully about each new item, so everything in his collection is special.

In 2024, Russel showcased his collection at Latagan Dos in Dubai and joined Kalyehon contests, reaching the second round twice. He credits Steve Paolo Casuga (CapMazing Casuga) for helping to grab items from eBay and different US sites. The friendships and connections built along the way, for him, are just as valuable as the caps themselves.

Ghem Avanzado first stepped into the vintage hat scene back in 2020. Growing up with a love for hip-hop and dance, he had always been into caps, rocking New Era and Mitchell & Ness pieces despite having limited access to legit ones as a kid. He loved the game, and the pandemic gave him more time to expand.

His journey started with a simple push from his friend Kim Baja, who suggested he collect Green Bay Packers team because the โ€œGโ€ matched his name and the team colorsโ€”green and goldโ€”were his favorites. Inspired and challenged, Ghem began hunting through live selling, asking sellers, and slowly building his collection. His first cap was an OG logo Packers, and from there, his connections grew, eventually expanding his hunt to eBay and Instagram.

Today, Ghem proudly owns over 50 GPack piecesโ€”with Volts, Cracks, and G2 among his most grail pieces on his collection. The black TVolts, which cost him around 20k, stands as his most valuable purchase, but for him, he truly appreciated the beauty and craft in making his favorite pieces, especially the G2 and Cracks.

His property caps also hold a special place in his collection, with Cowboys and Giants standing out because they were the hardest to acquire. He credits Aubrey Lacap, Jeffrey Mamboyo, and Bulek Pinuno for their constant support and guidance throughout his journey.

Aside from GPack, he was inspired by Chris Brown's "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" music video. By then, Ghem expanded beyond it and starts to collect some Property Hats which was also encouraged by his friend Kim Baja and seeing a near-complete collection by a collector in Instagram, he was determined to finish the entire line.

While CB Hats was also a target for him, property hats became a more accessible hunt at the time. Whenever he saw one at the right price, he grabbed itโ€”slowly building another line of his collection. Currently, Ghem is a proud member of Elbi Vintage Cap Collectors (EVCC) in the Philippines and Doha Vintage Cap Collectors (DVCC) in Qatar.

Right now, he's searching for the rare Heather GPack. He doesn't plan to sell his collection, but wants to keep it as a legacy for his child, hoping they'll either enjoy it as a hobby or use it in their future endeavors.

His advice to aspiring collectors, โ€œKahit anong pilit mo na makuha ang isang bagay, matututo ka talagang maghintay. Enjoy the process, learn from every experience, and build friendships along the way. No hate, tahimik lang sa gedli, and always keep the passion alive.โ€

He has been quietly collecting for many years and shares this passion with his brothers. Letโ€™s get to know one of the hardcore collectors of NBA Vancouver Grizzlies caps, now based in Canada none other than Jethro Villanueva Quinto.

Jethro began collecting in 2016, starting with a focus on the Los Angeles Lakers. However, after moving to Vancouver, he met some long-time collectors who were into the Vancouver Grizzlies but had since stepped away from the hobby. Their influence inspired him to start building his own Grizzlies vintage cap collection.

Growing up in Baguio City, Philippines, Jethro and his three older brothers were deeply influenced by hip-hop and gang culture, which was prominent in the city at the time. That influence drew them toward collecting rap-style hats at an early age.

Jethroโ€™s collecting journey hasnโ€™t been easy, especially in the early days when it was hard to find specific pieces. One of the toughest hats to track down was the Grizzlies D-Stooth by Logo Athletic extremely rare and quite expensive. Still, his dedication paid off.

The hobby has had a positive impact on him. Beyond the joy of collecting, it allowed him to make friends both locally and internationally. Financially, it helped as well he managed to acquire many pieces at lower prices between 2017 and 2020, which have since appreciated in value.

Even if he doesnโ€™t wear the hats, just owning them brings him joy, especially since the Vancouver Grizzlies no longer exist as a team. His passion even led him to join a local rally calling for the NBAโ€™s return to Vancouver. Itโ€™s also been fulfilling for him to see fellow Filipino collectors thrive and improve their lives through the same hobby.

Jethroโ€™s advice for new collectors: Find the right mentor. Donโ€™t rush to build your collection take your time and enjoy the journey. Buy what you truly like. Make friends, not enemies, and stay humble. The real value in collecting is in the connections you make and the joy the hobby brings.

New to the field but overflowing with passion and drive, letโ€™s get to know Vince Strauss Teves, the proud Miami Dolphins collector based in the UAE, Middle East ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช

Vince officially began his vintage cap collecting journey in May 2024, but the spark was lit a couple of months earlier during the Latagan sa Gitnang Silangan event in March 2024. He was there to support his childhood friend, Ez Kiel, one of the exhibitors, and he was amazed by the sheer number and uniqueness of the vintage caps on display. Curious and inspired, he did his research after the event and discovered that every hat carried a storyโ€”a release year, a purpose, a design rooted in history. That fascination quickly turned into a full-on passion.

His very first vintage cap was the Hornets DLine White Dome (also known as the Chris Brown Hat). Not long after, he came across a Miami Dolphins Spellout, and it was love at first sight. The vibrant colorway and rich legacy of the Dolphins drew him in, especially after realizing how many rare and iconic vintage variants were made for the team. From then on, he set his sights on acquiring as many Miami Dolphins caps as possible. While he acknowledges he may never complete them all, thatโ€™s exactly what makes the journey so exciting. As he puts it, like Ash from Pokรฉmon says, โ€œGotta catch โ€™em all!โ€

To date, Vince estimates his collection to be valued at around โ‚ฑ550,000, though he admits heโ€™s lost count. A major contributor to this collection is Boss D (Hatred Eliminate), who he considers not just a trusted source but a brother. Boss D was instrumental in hunting rare gems in the Philippines. Vince also hunts for caps himself through eBay, Instagram, Grailed, and other platforms. He also gives major credit to Gene De Los Reyes of Bangketa.PH, from whom heโ€™s acquired some of his most valuable and pristine piecesโ€”many deadstock with hang tag.

Locally in the UAE, he expresses gratitude to reliable connections whoโ€™ve passed on Miami Dolphins grails his way, including Stylish, Sumbrero ni Batang, Sampo, and Ubas. Heโ€™s also thankful to fellow collectors and motivators such as Zer Pen, Jerome Pineda, Jaren Jc Macatuno, and Markus Alaraรฑa, who continue to inspire and push him to do better.

Despite being relatively new to the game, Vince has already made waves in the community. He proudly holds these titles:
โ€ข Newbie of the Year 2024 โ€“ VCAPPERS Awards
โ€ข Scene Newcomer โ€“ Latagan Dos (March 2025)
โ€ข Top 8 Semifinalist โ€“ Street Triple Threat Event

But none of these wouldโ€™ve been possible, he says, without the unwavering support of his loving wife, who shares his excitement for every rare find. She listens to his endless stories about hats, never questions the obsession, and even fuels it his most prized piece, the Miami Dolphins Big Logo by The Game, was a Christmas gift from her. For Vince, collecting vintage caps has evolved beyond being just a personal hobby it has become something meaningful they both share.

For him, the beauty of collecting lies in the nostalgia, the emotional connection to the past, and the creative expression it allows. The vibrant hues of the Miami Dolphins reflect his personality and style, and the community has brought him close to people who share the same passion.
His advice to aspiring collectors,
Collect what speaks to you. The best collections tell storiesโ€”make yours
one of them.

The White Dome Two-Tone Treasure

Jaime Caparas's passion for vintage caps began in 2021 during the pandemic. Inspired by live-selling videos from the UAE, he initially tried his luck, but his early acquisitions left him unsatisfied. This early frustration, however, fueled his determination. A defining moment in his journey came when he attended a UAE Vcapper event, where he crossed paths with influential figures such as Flip Austria, Ian Fortin, and Gene Delos Reyes of Bangketa. These connections shaped his collecting experience, opening doors to new opportunities and insights in the capgame.

He initially focused on Green Bay Packers collection first and expanded unexpectedly. Through online chats and interactions with fellow collectors, he soon realized he was nearing completion of a significant set. This led to the development of his MLB collection. A key turning point involved a reseller in Al Ain who introduced him to a two-tone KC Chiefs cap. The captivating design and colorway ignited his interest in MLB caps, transforming this part of his collection into a prominent focus, now including six black-dome MLB caps featuring his favorite teams.

Through online chats and interactions with fellow collectors, he gradually recognized that he was approaching the completion of a significant set, it led to sparked the development of his MLB collection. A turning point came when a reseller in Al Ain introduced him to a certain two-tone KC Chiefs cap. The design and bold colorway captured his attention, fueling a newfound passion to collect all the two-tone MLB side hats. This discovery transformed his collection, making MLB caps a central focus.

Among his most prized MLB side possessions are the old logos of the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres, items he considers exceptionally rare. Heโ€™s proud of the fact that few other collectors possess these, especially the Phillies. Today, his collection prominently features two-tone white dome MLB side, NBA Single line script, Los Angeles Kings and Raiders and other biggest grails.

Jaime is a proud member of the UAE Vcappers, rooted from Pulilan, Bulacan in the Philippines, but started his collection while in Dubai. He credits Flip Austria, Bangketa, and Bulek Pinuno, and among others, as significant figures who aided him throughout his journey, offering invaluable support and guidance.

His advice to aspiring collectors emphasizes enjoying the journey over solely focusing on the price of the caps. He emphasizes the value of research and seeking guidance from trusted sellers and experienced collectors. To him, the collecting experience goes beyond simply acquiring capsโ€”itโ€™s about building connections, forming friendships, and becoming part of a global hat community. His collection stands as a true reflection of his dedication and passion, embodying the stories and relationships forged along the way.

He is new to the field, and since he's just starting to collect, his goal is to grow the number of caps in his collection.

Letโ€™s get to know Grey Sinag. He is a Filipino seafarer currently living in the UK. He has always had a passion for caps, which inspired him to learn more about vintage caps. He found that vintage caps fit better and have more beautiful designs compared to modern ones. He also connected with collectors and sellers in the Philippines, asking questions and learning from them.

One of the first caps he bought was a Los Angeles Clippers D-line 2-tone blue brim, which he noticed was rarely seen in live selling. Soon, he found other versions, like the Clippers D-line 1-tone, and thatโ€™s when his collection really started. He focused on collecting rare and hard-to-find pieces, making the hunt more exciting and worthwhile. He doesnโ€™t rush to buy every capโ€”he takes his time and puts in effort.

Grey now owns 50 different LA Clippers caps. He estimates he has spent around 300,000 pesos on them, including shipping. But for him, the cost doesnโ€™t matter because the hobby brings him joy. He says it helps him relax, relieves stress, and has even helped him make new friends around the world.

His advice to fellow new collectors:
Donโ€™t jump into collecting if you donโ€™t have the passion for it. Study and learn first. Be patient, because you'll meet many people with different personalities. Vintage collecting isnโ€™t for everyoneโ€”if youโ€™re only doing it for show, you might end up spending too much on luxury without truly enjoying the hobby.

You may already be familiar with this man who, despite being quiet on social media, is well-known in the vintage cap community for his humility and genuine passion for collecting none other than Terrence Ferrer, better known as Terenz Fbikennel. Now based in Los Angeles, California since 2017, Terrence has worked hard, taken risks, and even managed to buy a house in Biรฑan, Laguna.

He began collecting vintage caps in 2022, with the help of Vennict Esmanem and others whose names he may not remember but who surely know who they are. His love for vintage caps traces back to his admiration for hip-hop icons like Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Tupac, and Snoop Dogg, and local rap legends such as Francis M, Masta Plann, Death Threat, and Legit Misfitz. A former rapper himself during high school, it wasnโ€™t until his son introduced him to vintage hats that he realized he should collect Raiders caps, as they were worn by many of his idols and represented the city he now calls home. From that moment, he was hooked.

Although wearing other teams in certain neighborhoods can be dangerous due to gang affiliations, his love for vintage hats pushed him forward. No matter how expensive a piece was, if he wanted it, he got it. His collection has now reached a staggering estimated worth of 5 to 6 million pesos, with around 157 Raiders, 21 Dodgers, and 77 Lakers caps. For Terrence, vintage caps arenโ€™t just a hobby theyโ€™re a deep passion that has brought him joy, comfort, and connection. The friendships and camaraderie heโ€™s built through collecting have helped him during tough times, showing that hats have become more than just accessories theyโ€™re bridges to meaningful relationships.

Though he doesnโ€™t claim to be an expert, Terrence offers heartfelt advice to newcomers: take time to research the different variants and history behind vintage caps, donโ€™t hesitate to ask questions in the community, collect what you truly love, and always show gratitude to those whoโ€™ve helped you along the way. Stay humble, grow your circle of friends and your collection, but always prioritize your familyโ€™s needs. Most importantly, never forget to thank the One aboveโ€”because none of this would be possible without Him.
