Learning Math
There are a lot of ways to teach kids math. We started with small numbers. We used whatever toys we had at home as our manipulatives, so Wayne could easily perceive the math concepts. We used Lego sets, wooden blocks, toy cars, popsicle sticks, and paper clips (this one is not recommended for younger children, baka isubo).
When he's familiar with how the numbers look like, and when he's comfortable counting up to 20, we started sorting, comparing (greater than and less than), adding, and subtracting, using our manipulatives. Soon, we slowly moved to bigger numbers.
We would count our steps to the grocery store, to the park, or to anywhere. Until we noticed he could already count up to 3 digits, count backwards, and even skip count.
As a kid, I never liked a math. I even find it difficult. I'm glad that in homeschooling, we were able to explore a more personal and a more enjoyable way of teaching it to our son. It doesn't have to be all worksheets, or expensive manipulatives. Just maximize what you have at home and make it fun for the kids! Happy homeschooling! 💕
