Join us for a lecture-demonstration with masterweavers Sammy N. Buhle and Angelina Niploy on September 2, Saturday, 2:00-3:30 pm.
The program delves into their background and context as a family of masterweavers managing their weaving house and learning center in Hingyon, Ifugao. The program will feature the practice of weaving through a demonstration, taking a closer look at their tradition of weaving practice as well as Mr. Buhle's approach to the collaborative nature of the exhibition, 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙞 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙪 𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙖, 𝘼𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙪 𝙙𝙞 𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙖 / 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, the Philippine Pavilion at the 59th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia.

𝗦𝗔𝗠𝗠𝗬 𝗡. 𝗕𝗨𝗛𝗟𝗘 belongs to the younger generation of weaving artisans of Ifugao Province. Born in 1989 in Banaue, he comes from a family of weavers who taught him the art of weaving at an early age. He acknowledges his maternal grandmother, Kittayan Niploy, a respected and well-known weaver in her time. He now handles the family weaving house and actively participates in textile fairs.
𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗔 𝗡𝗜𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗬, born in 1959, continues to weave using a backstrap loom. Her work was featured in the Ayala Museum. Her husband, Fernando Buhle, specializes in dyeing and is a weaver as well.
