The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) joins the nation in celebrating Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM), a nationwide celebration of Filipino creativity, talent, and the significant contributions of our creatives and creative industries to national development.

Through Republic Act No. 11904, or the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, we continue to support the growth and development of the country’s creative industries, while recognizing and exploring the diverse creative domains that reflect the richness of Filipino culture and imagination.

This Philippine Creative Industries Month, support Filipino creativity! Visit galleries and cultural spaces, watch Filipino films and performances, read and share the works of Filipino writers, listen to original Filipino music, buy locally -- from Filipino artists and creative entrepreneurs --- and celebrate the diverse talents that shape our nation’s creative future.

🧶 Bawat Habi, May Kuwento. Bawat Hibla, May Pamana.

Sa tahimik na paggalaw ng mga kamay ni Bae Manlalala, 67 taong gulang, makikita natin ang isang sining na higit pa sa simpleng paghahabi.

Mula sa sudsud, isang tradisyonal na ligaw na halaman na ginagamit bilang materyales sa paghahabi, unti-unting nabubuo ang mga sumbrero, banig, bag, at garlang.

Ngunit higit pa sa isang produkto ang kanyang ginagawa.

Hinahabi niya ang alaala ng kanyang ina.
Hinahabi niya ang kaalaman ng mga ninuno.
At hinahabi niya ang kulturang nais niyang manatiling buhay.

Ang kaalamang ito ay ipinasa sa kanya ng kanyang ina at patuloy niyang isinasabuhay hanggang ngayon—sa kabila ng paglipas ng panahon.

Si Bae Manlalala ay isa sa mga natitirang tagapaghabi sa aming komunidad.

🌿 Ang kanyang mga kamay ay nagpapaalala sa atin:
Hindi kailangang maging malaki ang isang tao para makagawa ng malaking ambag.

Minsan, sapat na ang isang pares ng kamay, isang tradisyong minana, at pusong ayaw itong hayaang mawala.

Suportahan natin ang ating mga artisan.

Deep in the forests near Mt. Apo, the Bagobo people have a rule that sounds like superstition until you understand what it protects. Before a bee hunt, a hunter sings the Manganinay, a hymn to Panayangan, the god of the bee hunt, asking for a safe and successful harvest.

But it can only be sung outside. Tradition says singing it inside the house will cause it to burn down. It's a small rule that carries a bigger truth, that some knowledge belongs to the forest, not the walls we build to keep it out. PEÑARRUBIA, Abra — The municipal government of Peñarrubia is integrating traditional Tingguian weaving into the local senior high school curriculum to preserve the indigenous craft among younger generations.

Under the initiative, Peñarrubia Integrated School, the town’s sole public high school, now offers courses in natural dyeing, hand embroidery, and traditional weaving featuring cultural designs of the Tingguian, or Itneg, people.

To support the program, the municipal government allocated public funds to purchase tillar, or weaving looms, along with threads and raw materials for student use.

"We hope that there will be more of our youth who will take interest in making the culture alive," Mayor Geraldine Balbuena said.

Abra’s textile tradition is distinct within the Cordillera region for its hand embroidery, known locally as kinamay.

The patterns reflect agricultural life and spiritual beliefs, including sinanpagay (rice plant motifs), sinantao (human figures), sinankalasag (protective shields), and sinantukak (frogs associated with rain rituals).

The process relies on natural dyes derived from local tree bark and plant leaves rather than synthetic chemicals.

Community elders and local institutions are providing technical support for the educational effort. The Agaid family, which operates the Itneg School of Living Tradition in Barangay Namarabar, continues to teach community members and visitors the traditional techniques.

The revival effort coincides with expanding commercial interest in Tingguian textiles. Local artisan Luis Agaid Jr., a cultural master at the Itneg school, recently produced 1,000 hand-embroidered patches for Japanese retailer Uniqlo's global collection, showcasing kukko geometric motifs that symbolize agricultural productivity.

Town officials noted that formalizing the craft in schools ensures that historical traditions evolve into sustainable livelihoods for future generations, bridging ancestral heritage with contemporary fashion markets.

The latest album release from Ray An Fuentes who is now based in Canada :) He collaborated with Gary V. on some tracks and sings a duet with Kuh Ledesma on another track. There is a beautiful prayer track that lies on the bed of No Greater Love which highlights the testimony of this OPCM artist which I consider as the focal point of this album. Should this album be his swan song, then bravo! You did an awesome job. Glory to Jesus Christ ❤️‍🔥

Among the T'boli people of southern Mindanao, cloth is not merely woven, it is dreamed. 🧵 Their sacred t'nalak fabric, woven from abaca fiber in deep reds, blacks, and cream, carries patterns said to be revealed to the weavers in their sleep.

The women who create it are known as dreamweavers, and the designs are believed to come as gifts from a spirit in their dreams. The process is painstaking and can take months, from stripping the abaca to tying and dyeing each fiber by hand before it ever reaches the loom. No two cloths are exactly alike, and each holds meaning and memory.

It is a living art form, passed from mother to daughter across generations. 🤎 What handmade tradition in your own family do you hope is never lost?

The Spoliarium now hangs at the National Museum of the Philippines. It is the first thing visitors see when they walk through the door.
