BEHIND THE SEAMS.
This creation is inspired by Lalahon, a deity found in the ancient Visayan folktales and written myths. She is known to be the guardian of the famous Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Islands.
I used a ruby red sequins fabric for the base of this ensemble to represent the molten lava inside Kanlaon. Despite knowing the fact that volcanic eruptions bring threat and destruction, remember that regeneration, growth and renewal follow in its steps. And this lead me to digging into the meaning of Lalahons name - "the one who brings the time of plenty". History shows that soils around Mt. Kanlaon are rich in minerals and it has provided the locals a rich assortment of crops, giving rise to Lalahon's fame as the Goddess of Harvests in the Negros Isle. And for this, I used gold rhinestone embellishments on the bodice to represent the golden rice grains in the plains and also represent Lalahon being the goddess who brings bounty when harvest season comes.
