Locals make presence felt in Seniors division of 75th Fil-Am
Local squads stamped their class in the seniors divisions of the 75th Januarius Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament, with Camp John Hay (CJH) and Moto delivering come-from-behind victories to headline a banner day for homegrown talent.
CJH erased a daunting 14-point deficit and surged to the Fil A Seniors crown with a closing 88 for a 366 total at the Baguio Country Club (BCC) course.
Dr. Bayani Tecson powered CJH’s final charge with a team-high 26 points, complemented by the steady play of Dai Tsuchiya (22), Santiago Enginco (21), and Villamor Bumanglag (19).
The team had opened with a modest 84 that left them in fifth, but a flight-best 113 on Day 2 vaulted them to second—just a point behind BCC—and set the tone for their decisive finish at the tricky Golem Silverio-designed layout.
Baguio Blue Bloods settled for second after an 80 for a 352 aggregate, paced by John Marasigan (23) and Rudy Lockey (21). FODC Team denied an all-Baguio sweep by claiming third with an 84 for 346, edging out two-day leader BCC, which faded after a costly third-round 68 and could not recover despite an 80 on the final day.
In Am A Seniors, Moto staged its own rally behind Euls Austin, who carded a flight-best 6-over 30 to spark a closing 89 that secured the division title. Supported by Nelson Roa’s 26 points, Moto tallied 329 over four days to pull away from The Young Ones, their co-leaders entering the final round.
The Young Ones slipped to second with an 80, while Tigermade Maagir placed third after a 75 for 307.
The Golden Razcals dominated Fil C Seniors with a four-day 323, punctuated by a day’s-best 71 for a commanding 17-point victory.
Led by Robert Basco’s 22 and bolstered by Bernard Capuyan (20), Gov. Elias Bulut Jr. (17), and Swanny Dicang (12), the team erased a nine-point deficit with a flight-best 73 on opening day at BCC and never relinquished control.
Benlife settled for second with 306, unable to recover from a disastrous 51 at BCC, while Waterlympics Pampanga surged to third after matching the day’s best 71.
Bughaw Golfers capped the day of comebacks by ruling Am C Seniors with a 319 total, 25 points clear of the field. The team flourished at John Hay, where Noel Marcellano fired a flight-best six-over 30 to lead a closing 87.
Despite a rough second round—including a two-point penalty that erased their early advantage—the squad rebounded with a flight-best 98 at John Hay to reclaim the lead and sealed the championship with a composed final-round finish.
