We found that nothing out in the local market excited us, the designs were good but we felt we could do better. We were inspired by the do-it-yourself mentality of art school students who made their own clothes and shoes, differing perceptions of pop culture, the distinctive aesthetic of the circus and how the weirdest things always found the most diverse audience. Most especially, the feel of loc

al circuses in the Philippines where it's mostly freak shows that showed the zippers of the mermaid's tail-- that blatant fakeness that was both familiar and fascinating. Maybe that's exactly how we stand out, taking that which is typical and tweaking it to make something fresh but already feels like an old habit. We're setting up the tent, intimidating the lions, we're updating the trapeze acts, this circus has no safety nets.
