REPOST:
Va**ng is on my mind
I've been asked several times if I v**e...I do not but know people that do and people in the industry. I know people that have quit to***co because of va**ng. I understand why people would ask as I have posted a lot in defense of va**ng. Trust me, it doesn't upset me that I've been asked.
My stance against banning va**ng are for multiple reasons so I will list them here hopefully to share information and an opinion.
There are multiple ways to v**e and using Juul is dangerous also using illicit cartridges is dangerous but other forms of legal va**ng isn't the same thing.
1. Juul uses salt ni****ne which is 100 times more addictive than regular ni****ne. Juul cartridges contain as much ni****ne as 4 packs of ci******es. That is a horrific amount of ni****ne. In E-liquids you can choose your ni****ne levels or none at all. You cannot get regular ni****ne in quantities as high as the salt ni****ne. Max for regular is 24 mg per 30 ml bottle but you can get Salt ni****ne in 50 mg in 30 ml bottle. Salt ni****ne needs to be regulated down if not banned. All Juuls use salt ni****ne. Big to***co companies own Juul. Juul was the first to make salt ni****ne.
2. It has been reported in research here in the US by reputable sources i.e. , Harvard, WebMD , NIH that va**ng had a better success rate in to***co cessation than any other form of cessation products. However v**ers continued to v**e while others ceased using the cessation tools. Many went back to smoking in the nonva**ng group.
3. It is being reported by investigators that they are finding an oil in illicit cartridges associated with the current outbreak of disease and death. Illegal THC cartridges are a listed culprit. This is not ALL v**e products !!
4. E-liquids do come in wonderful flavors but it is ILLEGAL to sell v**e products to anyone under the age of 18. However, if we ban flavored E-liquids because it attracts underage patrons and its causing illness and death then shouldn't we ban flavored to***co products and alcohol products because they are also being used illegally and causing disease and death.
5. It has been shown in research that E-liquids are less "dangerous " than ci******es in that ci******es contain over 7000 chemicals and v**e juice contains 2 additives but if you want ni****ne then it makes 3. They use vegetable glycerin (found in grocery store) or propylene glycol( is ingredient for broncodilation in inhalers) natural and artificial food grade flavor. Then ni****ne if you request it. The labs are regulated and monitored by the government. One lab I know of is so sterile it's ranked the same as a lab making Tylenol.
6. There's many facilities not calling for a ban on va**ng but rather asking to investigate further the individual products people were using at time of illness versus removing a potentially life saving product based on an ill informed decision .
7. In England, medical professionals recommend va**ng as it is considered not harmful based on their research. They do not have to***co lobbyist there like here.
Now my opinions
A. To***co companies are losing money due to va**ng so they use their deep pockets to get a federal ban. I don't know why we aren't talking about banning to***co as well or alcohol. Seems a double standard
B. Government taxes to***co 3 times the amount of v**e products so guess who loses tax revenue if people quit smoking and dipping and chewing ?
C. Banning flavored liquid because teens are attracted by them. Flavored alcohol is attractive too but we are not banning them. Why not ? Drunk driving causes death among teens and alcohol poisoning as well.
D. Banning this product because minors and others are up to no good circumventing the legal system and misusing these products is the same principle as banning guns because of a minority of people are misusing guns. Law abiding companies are not selling the products to minors and are not putting the awful additives in them. We have never been 100 % successful in keeping people from doing illegal things by banning the product i.e. Prohibition and the possible gun grabbing, Sudafed (lol) We shouldn't punish law abiding citizens because of non law abiding citizens
E. If the government is so concerned about our health why aren't they banning ci******es with to***co's long history and high numbers of deaths and disease caused by to***co? Could it be money motivated? Remember the most addictive and dangerous products in va**ng industry are owned by big to***co and they can use higher quantities of a more addictive ni****ne. But because of v**e product competition they dont have this on lock down like they do with ci******es.
F. Widespread Va**ng has been occurring in the US a good 5-6 years with va**ng prior to that for many years without reported incidents. Remember the cases of death and illness, for the most part, by young adults and teens that due to age probably wasn't va**ng 5 years ago. So this is a recent phenomenon.
I'm not saying the recent outbreaks of illness and death aren't concerning but I think there's more investigating to be done because many of our leading experts feel it is a unique outbreak in va**ng as a whole and there is a lot of research to back its safety. I would hate to see ones I love pick smoking/dipping back up because a safer alternative has been removed because of lies, greed and misinformation.
Thanks for reading ! I have been sharing posts and videos from sources about this subject.
