Someone Just Stole the World’s Most Famous Banana… Again

The internet’s favorite banana has gone missing once more.

A banana that forms part of Maurizio Cattelan’s viral artwork “Comedian” was reportedly stolen from the Centre Pompidou-Metz museum in France over the weekend.

Museum staff discovered the missing banana on Saturday and quickly filed a legal complaint. But before anyone panicked too much, the museum reminded everyone that the banana is actually meant to be replaced regularly — so a fresh one was taped back to the wall almost immediately.

For those unfamiliar, Comedian is literally a banana duct-taped to a wall. Despite looking like a prank, the artwork became one of the most talked-about pieces in modern art history and has sold for millions of dollars.

And honestly? This isn’t even the first banana-related drama.

2019: Performance artist David Datuna peeled and ate the banana during Art Basel Miami.

2023: An art student in South Korea grabbed the banana from the wall and ate it after skipping breakfast.

2024: Crypto billionaire Justin Sun bought the artwork for $6.24 million and then ate the banana himself.

2025: Another visitor at the same French museum reportedly ate the banana.

2026: Someone just skipped the eating part and stole it entirely.

According to the museum, the artwork is meant to highlight the absurdity of financial speculation and question how society assigns value to objects.

Ironically, the banana keeps proving its point every time someone steals it, buys it for millions, or eats it.

At this stage, the banana might be more famous than most celebrities.

Question: If someone pays millions for a banana taped to a wall, is it genius art or the world’s biggest meme?
