I have always loved design and have been experimenting with different fabrics and construction methods since as far back as I can remember. I always knew I wanted to bring my own interpretation of fashion, statement pieces, while being dramatic, retain a sense of wearable practicality, into conception. That is how the label was conceived. Though I have not had professional training, in fact my educational background is more ‘academic’ than creative, I believe that the aesthetics of fashion come through a natural flair and of course, one must hone their skills through endless amounts of practical training. I received my Bachelors Degree from the University of Toronto with a major in political science. This was followed by a Master’s Degree from Central Saint Martins; my thesis was in the form of a project based on artists from warzones of Pakistan, and I curated and showed their work in Lahore and in London in 2012. I received a Distinction for my thesis, which is the highest grade on the master’s programme. Working so closely within the art world, reignited my desire to pursue my favourite form of creative expression, which is the process of design. I wanted to create a label that was a mix between high art and fashion; the two things I am most passionate about. And that is the signature style of Studio S. In fact, the Art Nouveau Movement and the works of the great master Gustav Klimt inspire my debut collection, titled ‘Neo Nouveau.’ Creating this label has been a labour of love and is therefore very special for me.
