The holidays are behind us now and what remains are these stories of thread on linen and memories ❤️

Photos in the order of appearance:

1. A view from the terrace of a mountain cabin where we stayed in the hills of Monchique, Algarve, Portugal. Embroidered by me. I just couldn't get enough of that view and the photos don't do justice.

2. The Fort built by Henry the Navigator, that we saw in Sagres. Embroidered by my older daughter. She played Henry the Navigator in a school play.

3. A horse. We saw a few of those during our trip and my younger daughter is very keen to buying one with her pocket money 😂

4. A volcano by the sea. Not related to this trip at all 😂 My younger daughter is simply obsessed with volcanoes.

Forever inspired by and her book Mystical Stitches 💚

I found this beauty in a pile of old furniture next to a garbage bin, tucked away behind an old broken cupboard... It was dirty and damaged, obviously made many years ago and worn off quite a bit... but just think of how much time it took for someone to make it... how much patience and dedication... loving thoughts... maybe making it for someone as a present... with the initials at the bottom...

Couldn't resist and had to rescue it 😊 Took it home, washed it carefully and I think it looks very cool hanging on the wall of my sewing room. And most importantly, I feel like it has an interesting story to tell...

I finally made it too!!!!

Just before my holidays in July I had a sewing spree (as always) and finally cut into one of the tablecloths I brought back from Lithuania last year... and made it into this top!!!! Yay!!! I have seen so many beautiful transformations and wanted to try it myself. Used simplified La Brea top pattern by Halfmoon Atelier.

The table cloth was quite small and had stains so I had to think hard on how to cut it to avoid the stains and have a nice placement of the embroidery. Also wanted to use the natural hem. Had to join two pieces to make a panel for the back and used hanstitching to recreate the hem of the tablecloth 😁

"Every tiny piece of cloth has a long history. In the case of cotton, for example, the plant had to be foraged or cultivated, picked, spun and then dyed and woven, or woven and dyed - all this before the cloth is turned into something else. To throw out even a scrap of material, therefore, is painful, so we keep everything."
