Uma visita linde e inesperada da Kiri em Lisboa. Tive o grande prazer de a ajudar a visitar outras tingideiras na zona para seu projeto que pretende documentar as mulheres que trabalham as cores naturais.

Quem trabalha em isto sabe o importante que é este trabalho. Não só para documentar, mas para criar uma rede de apoio e mostrar ao mundo (e os governos para fins fiscais) que existimos e nosso trabalho deve ser reconhecido (eu por exemplo fico no CAE ‘outros artistas’).

Harvesting dye flowers, cleaning up dried brush, collecting coreopsis plants that have stopped blooming, resting with a post procedure Frodo, and got a new toy to cut the grass & weeds…

But actually, if anyone knows how to feed the nylon string correctly into the aparador …. Please share your secrets!!! I’m going crazy with the line braking every 30s and feel like I’m doing something wrong

Lush vegetation, garden inspo, and finding familiar friends in the plants.

Could be worse places to be stuck in due to weather!

For those visiting the island and keen on plants….. botanical gardens were much more interesting and educational than the tropical gardens (unless you’re just there for the fotos)

After.... before... and at the start.

Since getting locked out from this account a year ago, I made a big move onto a piece of family land in Abóboda (you’re not alone if you have no idea where this is... nestled between Lisbon and Cascais, 10 minutes inland from Carcavelos).

I moved into the caravan in January, immediately getting the studio and garden started. Then in April, we put up a tiny wooden house for me to live in. The proper studio will be built eventually, using repurposed windows I’ve been collecting from the trash (hollah if you have some!).

Each of these projects has come with an enormous amount of work and unexpected challenges to solve, but it’s a dream come true.

Wild Fabrics: A day in Monsanto - a plant to fabric workshop exploring Lisbon’s local flora.

and I hosted the first edition in July and it was such a great time we’ll be holding it again in October.

You’ll learn how to:
- Identify key dye plants
- Forage responsibly
- Ecoprint
- Tie Dye / Shibori
- Naturally dye with a dye bath

Plus snacks, great company, and a beautiful location.

Ever wondered how to dye blue naturally?

Blue is one of the hardest colors to get in natural dyes and is most often achieved through a dye called indigo.

There are several plants that contain indigo, but the pigment is insoluble until it’s forced through a reduction process.

As the fabric goes in and out of the vat it turns from yellow to green to blue at the indigo oxidizes and returns to an insoluble state.

This process isn’t easy and is completely different from other color extraction methods.

So it fills me with joy to facilite this magical experience at .pt next week!

You’ll dye a +351 essential t shirt with indigo, using tie dye folds to make a pattern.

These shirts are the definition of effortless style and there won’t be another one like it in the world!
