IKURU is an ethical fashion label based in Pemba, a bustling town on the Indian Ocean in Mozambique. IKURU means "strength" in the Macua language, and providing strength to women through fashion is at the heart of the IKURU Project. Our style is simple, trendy and fresh – made for responsible consumers across the globe who care to see and contribute to a brighter Africa. In a converted workshop, w

e train Mozambican women from vulnerable social and economic backgrounds to design and create original, locally-sourced clothing for a living. We have chosen the vibrant capulana fabrics (African wax print) to create our unique, everyday clothes for women, men and kids since capulanas form the social fabric of women’s lives throughout Africa. IKURU believes that as consumers, we can make a difference through our choices. That’s why we invest in professional training, create job opportunities and provide an encouraging working environment for women, where they may develop a sense of pride and achievement through their handcrafted clothing. We trust that they, their children and their communities will grow as a result. By supporting ethical fashion, consumers have a direct role in improving the lives of women in Mozambique and realising IKURU’s dream. We want our brand to grow so we can continue to make beautiful clothes for more people worldwide to help more women in Mozambique. It's a perfect equation...

IKURU peops, We will be at CCFM this Saturday all day with new gorgeous clothes for women, men and kids. We know it's a long week-end but if you decide to stay in Maputo, come enjoy local crafts and art and some good music. We'll be here :) xx
