Mihaela Drăgan is one of the most influential contemporary Roma artists, known for her work as an actress, director, playwright, and co-founder of Giuvlipen, the first Roma feminist theatre company in Romania. In 2014, she co-founded Giuvlipen, creating a groundbreaking artistic space that has transformed the way Roma culture and experiences are represented on stage. As a director and playwright, Mihaela creates powerful performances that challenge stereotypes and open new conversations about social justice, equality, and representation. She is also internationally recognized for her contribution to contemporary theatre and for developing the concept of Roma Futurism, an artistic vision that combines Roma culture, imagination, technology, and future-oriented storytelling. Mihaela Drăgan este una dintre cele mai influente artiste rome contemporane, cunoscută pentru activitatea sa ca actriță, regizoare, dramaturg și co-fondatoare a Giuvlipen, prima companie de teatru feminist rom din România.
Prin proiectele sale artistice, ea aduce în prim-plan povești despre femeile rome, identitate, feminism, libertate și rezistență culturală.
În 2014, a co-fondat Giuvlipen, creând un spațiu artistic revoluționar care a transformat modul în care cultura și experiențele rome sunt reprezentate pe scenă.

🌺 Magda Matache is wearing the “Resistance” collection T-shirt — a collection dedicated to memory, identity, and the strength of the Roma community.A researcher at Harvard University, a human rights activist, and one of the most important Roma voices internationally, Margareta (Magda) Matache continues to speak about history, discrimination, and collective healing through education, culture, and solidarity.
Recently, the Romanian launch of her book “The Permanence of Anti-Roma Racism. (Un)uttered Sentences”, published by Routledge, also took place in Romania. The volume examines anti-Roma racism as a structural and persistent phenomenon, from European policies to the individual experiences of Roma communities. It is an important book about memory, resistance, and social justice.

Resistance has faces, stories, and roots.
We are proud to have Gilbert Costache join us in the Resistance Campaign and Collection, initiated by ILO – Intercultural Diversity and Inclusion Center and Loly by Zita Moldovan.
Model, actor, and author, Gilbert Costache brings to this campaign an authentic story of courage, ambition, and pride in one’s identity. Born in Romania, becoming one of Spain’s most acclaimed models, and later moving to the United States to study acting, his journey is a testament to perseverance and the power of following your dreams.
Today, his experiences have also taken the form of a book. Stop the Rain, Throw Salt! (“Oprește ploaia, aruncă cu sare!”), Gilbert Costache’s debut memoir, is an honest reflection on identity, belonging, roots, and the courage to tell your own story.
Some stories are not meant to impress. They are meant to tell the truth.
The book is now available for pre-order, signed by the author, through Editura Nemira.

Today, I am the first person to officially wear one of the t-shirts from the collection — and I feel like I am wearing much more than just a simple design. This collection, created by ILO- Intercultural Diversity and Inclusion Center & Loly by Zita Moldovan, speaks about our stories, identity, memory, and resistance. About all the years we tried to find our voice in a world that often wanted us invisible.
As a Roma artist, I learned that resistance doesn't just mean surviving. It means continuing to create, speak, and exist authentically even when you are judged, underestimated, or reduced to stereotypes.And perhaps the most important thing I feel is this:"I am not an exception. I am neither the first nor the last Roma artist to wear her identity with pride, courage, and voice."
In the coming period, other Roma artists, activists, and creators will also wear these t-shirts and tell their own stories of resistance. Because each of us has a struggle, a journey, and a voice that deserves to be heard.

Roma Resistance Collection” a fost lansată pe 16 mai, de Ziua Rezistenței Romilor.
Astăzi sunt prima persoană care poartă oficial unul dintre tricourile colecției — și simt că port pe mine mult mai mult decât un simplu design. 🤍
Colecția aceasta, realizată de ILO- Intercultural Diversity and Inclusion Center & Loly by Zita Moldovan, vorbește despre poveștile noastre, despre identitate, memorie și rezistență. Despre toți anii în care am încercat să ne găsim vocea într-o lume care de multe ori ne-a vrut invizibili.
Ca artistă romă, am învățat că rezistența nu înseamnă doar să supraviețuiești. Înseamnă să continui să creezi, să vorbești și să exiști autentic chiar și atunci când ești judecat, subestimat sau redus la stereotipuri.
Și poate cel mai important lucru pe care îl simt este acesta:
„Nu sunt o excepție. Nu sunt nici prima și nici ultima artistă romă care își poartă identitatea cu mândrie, curaj și voce.”
În perioada următoare, și alți artiști, activiști și creatori romi vor purta aceste tricouri și își vor spune propria poveste a rezistenței. Pentru că fiecare dintre noi are o luptă, un drum și o voce care merită auzită.
Din România până la Chicago — rezistența noastră merge mai departe prin artă, cultură și identitate.
