Spero Designs provides income for women in rural southern Romania who have limited
employment options. Over 25% of individuals live below the poverty line. Many women leave the country to work low-wage jobs abroad, leaving their children with friends or relatives for many months at a time. Spero Designs equips women to work from home making handcrafted products, enabling them to nurture and care
for their families. Spero Designs is a registered non-profit in Romania* and is a local church economic development initiative. Volunteer staff exercise a Biblical, wholistic approach to poverty alleviation founded on the belief that the local church is mandated and spiritually equipped to address the root issues that cause poverty in the local community. Spero Designs, an economic development initiative working under the umbrella of the local church, provides an avenue to financial stability for women in Sothern Romania. The women work from home, making handcrafted products, while relying on the support and guidance of other members of the community initiative. Spero is Latin for ‘hope’. Romanians are very proud of their heritage as the oldest Romance (Latin-based) language. The artisans of Spero Designs come to understand that their hope lies not in the work of their hands, but in Jesus, their Living Hope (1 Peter 1:3). Thank you for supporting Spero Designs.
