🌵 Upcycle, Plant & Get Prickly for a Good Cause! 🌵

I'm excited to share that Simply R&J will be part of the Assisi Fun Fair this year, where I'll be hosting a hands-on workshop booth to upcycle, plant and get prickly!

Every dollar raised from the workshop goes directly to Assisi Hospice. Many of us have been affected by cancer in one way or another, and we know how important compassionate palliative care can be for patients and their families. Being able to contribute in my own crafty little way to this fundraising effort is truly a blessing.

Want to be part of it? Here's how:

🌱 Donate small containers I'm looking for: • Small bottles • Tiny tea cups or glasses (Maximum size: Essence of Chicken bottle)
Drop-off at Toa Payoh from 5–7 June only. Exact location will be shared via DM. (I'm sorry I won't be able to arrange collection.)

🌱 Volunteer at the booth I'm looking for helping hands for either of these shifts: • 10am–1pm • 1pm–4pm

🌱 Come and DIY with us : Visit the booth, create your own mini planted pot and bring home a unique little creation while supporting a meaningful cause.

Whether you donate, volunteer or simply stop by to make something with us, you'll be helping support the wonderful work of

Event details are in the poster. Hope to see some familiar faces there! ❤️

Spot something rare?
Not all Bunga Kangkungs (BKK) are the same… have you seen this version yet?
So, so thrilled to finally show you these - 🟠 BKKs

Unwrapping this set, reminds me of the Story of selling my first (and only) oval 🟠 BKK ...

At one of my earlier pop-ups at My Village Serangoon, I made a full 🟠 set. Large oval base 🟠 + small plate 🟠. One of my rarest ever.

And then… it was gone 😅
A lady walked by, picked it up — no hesitation. Just like that.

I thought wah, it has to be a fellow BKK fan, someone who gets it. I happily started chatting about how rare it was…
Turns out, she just liked it. Didn’t know how rare it actually was. Super chill about it.

I won’t lie, I was very worried. Felt like voiding the sale. A bit heart pain.
It was so freshly made / just displayed — I didn’t even manage to take any photo of it.

If you’re that lady and somehow reading this… please take care of it ok 🧡
In my 5 years, I’ve never come across another 🟠 BKK like them. That’s how rare it is.

Anyway… fast forward to now — I finally have a few 🟠 pieces again. Not the same set, but still special.

Time to find their partners ✨

It is Eastertide ✝️, and while rabbits 🐇 technically have nothing to do with the story of our Lord Jesus, they have somehow become the cheerful commercial symbol of the season.

So let me introduce my little Peter Rabbit collection. 🐰

These plates are not quite vintage (2016!) but they were simply too pretty for me to pass up. Naturally… they had to be drilled and tiered to make them even prettier.

Now they’ve become two sweet tiered stands, perfect for pastries, little tea treats, or even as an accessories tray.

I promise you they are gorgeous in real life. Unfortunately my reel skills may not be doing them justice — blame it on a one-woman show and slightly questionable lighting. 😅
But trust me on this one… they’re really quite lovely.

DM me to chope them. Stands can be changed if you prefer something else.

I’m quite excited to share this next piece.

This series of plates once belonged to the grandmother, and I was asked to upcycle them into gifts for the next generation of the family. These beautiful RC Japan plates and likely from the 1970s–80s.

When I first started working on them, I ran into some issues with my old drill. In a way, this project became the final push I needed to invest in a better drill press. Sometimes small (micro) businesses just need a little catalyst to get us moving.

I’m really glad I did.

A new machine, a little courage, and now these plates will soon begin their second chapter in another country.

They may not be heirlooms in the traditional sense.
But I hope that when the next generation uses them — for tea, desserts, or gatherings — they’ll remember where they came from.

A simple treasure.
Maybe not worth much in dollars.
But hopefully worth a lot in the heart.

And that, to me, is the quiet magic of what I do at Simply R&J — giving vintage pieces another life so memories can continue. 💚

Did your family have a plate or teacup that everyone remembers?

A small milestone for Simply R&J 🌸

I finally invested in a bigger, more impressive drill… and it arrived yesterday.
Almost my height and weight— not kidding. 😄

Of course I had to test it immediately. The first plate I picked was a slightly imperfect 80s sakura plate. Everything was going smoothly… until a small part of the drill loosened and dropped right after the hole was done.
First casualty. 😅

I stayed strong and carried on with a batch of custom pieces, and I’m happy to report that the remaining 9 plates turned out perfectly. Phew!

Every new tool comes with a bit of a learning curve, but this upgrade means I can work faster and more precisely, which is exciting.

Who knows… I might even be able to take instant jobs soon.... 😊

Some designs never go out of style.
Classic blue and white, with the delicate rice grain pattern — elegant, timeless, and quietly beautiful.

If you had met me at a pop up, I would have held this up and show you why its called the rice grain series.
When the piece is held against the light, the little “grains of rice” turn slightly translucent, creating that signature glowing effect that feels both delicate and magical.

Rice represents nourishment, abundance, and prosperity in our Asian cultures, hence it makes a meaningful pattern to bring to the table.

I know from google that the rice grain pattern is from a traditional porcelain technique from China known as Linglong. During production, tiny grain-shaped openings are carefully carved into the porcelain while it is still unfired. These openings are then filled with a clear glaze before the final firing.

Upcycled here into a Simply R&J tiered stand, giving this beautiful piece another life for tea, desserts, or a quiet afternoon snack.

Sometimes the classics really are classics for a reason. 🤍

Back to regular programming on a Monday morning… showing off my creations again. 😛

I always get a little excited when it’s time to bring out the oval platters. They’re large, versatile, and honestly… they make quite the statement. Perfect for tea treats, desserts, or just sitting pretty on the table to admire.

Oval sets are totally mix-match duo — different plates, different stories that somehow can come together. That’s the part I love most about upcycling vintage crockery. Nothing is identical, but everything works.

PS: This set was sold, but don’t worry… I still have a stash of oval plates waiting for their turn in the workshop.
If you’d like to see more oval creations, drop a 💐 in the comments and I’ll bring them out soon.

Sometimes a project comes along that feels a little closer to the heart. 💙
Long story below...

Recently the IJ Alumni Association shared that a retired teacher was letting go of some of her treasured crockery. Her wish was simple — whatever funds raised would go back to the school to support the girls. Some forms of help, as we know, quietly fall outside what the MOE covers. So I reached out and said — if no one takes the saucers, let me upcycle them. Let’s give them another life.

It was such a joy helping her set up a little corner at the recent IJ Fiesta. Watching people pause, reminisce with old teachers and some pick up pieces that once sat in teachers home… that felt quite special.

I’d love to see these pieces find homes so we can add a little more to her donation pool for the girls. These are specially priced at $20 for ring dishes and $35 for the tiered stands. + $5 for Delivery

If you’re an IJ girl, help me pass this along to your kakis. You know how our network works. 🙏🙏

PS. Also if you’re from my era… you’ll recognise the song playing with this post. The one we used to sing during retreats and school events, and start tearing. Are you tearing a little already? 💙

Had a really lovely morning with fellow mumpreneurs at hosted by .co in celebration of .

We kicked off the morning with a simple but meaningful DIY dried flower frame. Thanks .sg for the gentle reminder that life moves in seasons. Looking at the pink florals I naturally picked… I realised I might actually be in a rather blissful season of my life. 🌸

The conversations that followed were easy and honest. We talked about the joys (and let’s be real… the pains too) of motherhood and running small businesses. Sitting with MOS and MP , I was reminded that although we are all on different journeys, being women — and mothers — somehow binds us together. Quiet strength, shared understanding, and the determination to keep going for our kids.

Ms Gan treated us to her yummy cookies . And I’ve always noticed how Ms Elysa makes a point to wear local designers and brands. Such small, thoughtful gestures — but these are exactly the ways we quietly support one another and keep our local businesses going.
