I have had a few questions about whether I make plus sized clothes. My answer is that I am striving to be size inclusive, which is a bit different. This is something that is very important to me as a maker.

Ever felt like the clothes you bought online were completely the wrong size?

It is so important to measure yourself and compare this to the measurements provided rather than guessing, or basing your size choice on the size you are in another brand.

It is also important to measure yourself in the correct location. Two of the most commonly mistaken measurements are waist and hip.

Your waist measurement should be at the narrowest part of your body. It is probably higher than you think.

Your hip measurement is at the widest part of your body, right around the fullest part of your bum. It is probably lower than you think.

Purchasing online is a great way to access interesting brands that we don't always have access to in person in Singapore. Don't be afraid! Busy out the tape measure.

Coming Soon - Shorts Edit.

First drop is a small collection of easy to wear shorts in neutral colours. These shorts are in response to those that are looking for something a little more structured, while still being easy to pull on and wear. The fabric has body that ensures they don't end up crushed and crumpled quickly in the heat and humidity.

Time to properly introduce myself.

My name is Kallie, and I make your clothes.
I have had a few different careers in my time, but the one constant in my life since I was a child has been working with my hands to make things. I sew, knit, crochet, spin, draw and cook. I would love to learn carpentry, weaving and pottery.

When I moved to Singapore almost 14 years ago, I was discouraged that this supposed shopping mecca often did not have clothes that fit me as a UK 12/14. In the past few years I have had the opportunity to study fashion design, and am now focusing on making beautiful clothes for other women at Hemsley House.

It is important to me that everyone has the opportunity to buy something cool, unique and well made.

As a small business, I can more easily respond to what customers want - so I would love to hear from you - what clothes do you have trouble finding here in Singapore?

Welcome to the new Hemsley House.

I have been doing a lot of thinking over the past 6 months about what brings me joy, and what makes a business that is sustainable for me in the long term.

Ultimately, custom made clothes was not giving me the creative outlet I was looking for. Through my work with , I have had the chance to talk to many women here in Singapore, and realised there is still a lack of choice when it comes to good quality size inclusive clothing.

So - starting from October, I will be offering regular drops of hand crafted garments, made right here in Singapore. Each drop will come in a range of sizes, at the moment, up to a US 20.

A big part of being sustainable is using what you already have.

Which means spending Saturday morning making size tags from materials and tools I already had in the studio.

Is this the best use of my time? Probably not. But, I am committed to using what I have in creative ways for my business, before investing in something new.

Plus, I think they are cute!

When I am not making clothes, I am knitting, spinning, crocheting or drawing. I always need to have busy hands.

Do you struggle with this common fitting issue? Your pants or skirt look great everywhere, except they gape at the top of the waistband?

One of the reasons for this is that the waistband is drafted as a flat rectangle, and this does not fit neatly around our curvy bodies.

The solution? A curved waistband that is narrower at the top than the bottom. The amount of curve required for the perfect fit is different for everybody. Custom made clothes take these little differences into account.
