Honey is natural and has great nutrients… but that doesn’t mean it’s safe for babies! 🍯⚠️
Many parents are surprised to learn that babies under 12 months old should never be given honey, even in small amounts. That’s because honey can contain spores of a bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. While older children and adults can handle these spores, a baby’s immature digestive system may not be able to stop them from growing.
In rare cases, this can lead to infant botulism, a serious condition that can cause constipation, weak crying, poor feeding, floppy muscles, and difficulty breathing 🤒
Avoid giving honey in any form, including raw honey, processed honey, honey water, or foods made with honey until your little one turns 1 year old. 💛
When introducing new foods, remember: “natural” doesn’t always mean “safe” for babies. Knowing these small details can make a big difference in protecting your little one.
