Repost and photo by At the start of the 1985-86 season, the NBA shifted its focus of ābanningā sneakers worn by MJ and set their sights on Don Nelson. The 45 year old Coach of the Milwaukee Bucks was under contract with Converse and wore Black Cons with the white star logo. However the NBA said coaches werenāt allowed to represent any brands while on the floor. His reasoning for wearing the shoes wasnāt to promote the brand, but simply for comfort. He stood his ground, continuing to wear the shoes until the NBA threatened a fine against him for not following league rules.
Nelly however continued wearing the shoes, except he took two giant pieces of white tape to cover the Converse logo in the shape of an āX. This was approved by the league and fines were never initiated.
