We haven't been resting on our laurels as its been a whirlwind of 2015 (everyone who supported our label: customers, stockists and press alike, we thank you!)
Thank you Yian Ping (and Wang Yiming) for featuring us on the centrefold and giving Ah Mah the greatest New Year's present ever.
Here's wishing one and all an abundant and harmonious reunion with loved ones.
*When I think of SG50, I think about all the events of this past year and one person comes to mind, my grandmother. Every Lunar New Year, she will spend a lot of time decorating the house. My grandmother was born in the same year as the late Lee Kuan Yew, she too has seen and experienced first-hand the trials and tribulations during World War II. Even till this day, she's nostalgic about the past and stubborn about keeping up with traditions. She never fails to remind me of how fortunate I am to be born in this day and age, enjoying the fruits of our forefathers.
I've incorporated the art of paper cutting into both of my designs with a black and white theme reminiscent of monochromatic photos of the past. The motifs etched are symbolic of our Chinese heritage, such as the (year of the) Goat, our HDB skyline and our national flower. In a way, I'm also paying tribute to the one person who has taught me the value of keeping our traditions alive and how important it is to pass it on.
I can hear her nagging now, "Think twice, cut once!"*
