旗典/ The Beginning is a Singapore fashion label founded by Hoon Nee and Christine. Hoon Nee and Christine believe in embracing femininity that recognises the aspirations and multifaceted of today’s woman. To us, femininity means embracing how you look and be comfortable in your own skin. The right clothes can provide confidence and help woman feel empowered to tackle whatever challenge that lies ah

ead. Because of their believes and aspiration to reinvent the way woman dresses, they collaborated and founded 旗典/ The Beginning. 旗典/ The Beginning focuses on oriental fashion. The dresses are designed with elements like mandarin collars and Chinese knots to bring out the femininity. Dresses are also incorporated with the right design and cutting to flatter the woman’s figures. Albeit not working in the same department, they met through cross-departmental projects. Their friendship blossomed after spending considerable time together at work and also hanging out during lunch and after work, sharing ideas and thoughts on latest fashion and style. Since young, Christine has been fascinated with Cheongsam. She loves how the mandarin collar, the slit and the body hugging dress brings out the body curve and elegance of a woman. Christine designs leisurely and she owns several well tailored Cheongsam designed by herself. Hoon Nee loves sewing. She started taking tailoring courses after embarking on motherhood. She sews for her kids and feels a great sense of satisfaction on seeing how happy her girls were when wearing the dresses she sewn. Sewing inspires Hoon Nee’s creativity and it also enables her to make clothes exactly how she wants them to be. The word 旗 comes from 旗袍 and the word 典 comes from 典范. 旗袍 represents femininity and 典范 means an idea or design that influences others. 旗典 sounds like 起点 and it translates to “Beginning” in English. Henceforth the name The Beginning is chosen. We uses QD, which is the first letter of the words Qi Dian (hanyu pinyin of 旗典), as our logo. The branding symbolises starting of a journey. The creation of this brand is the start of a journey to reinvent the way we dress. Everyone is invited to join us on this journey!
