Seeing my family coming together to help me with order processing, tells a lot about my small business

Sometimes people only see the finished product online.
Behind every Busy Mat parcel is: late nights, messy tables, tired hands, family conversations, little helpers running around, and moments that remind me why I started this in the first place.

Busy Mat was created to encourage families to slow down and reconnect.
And somehow, while building this brand, it has done the same for my own family too.

Hello to our new community 👋🏻

This is a little introduction to Busy Mat 🤍

I’m Valene, the founder of Busy Mat — a mummy of two, and the person behind every illustration, doodle, and idea you see here. Everything is hand-drawn and thoughtfully conceptualised from my little corner at home, inspired by motherhood, childhood, and the everyday moments we often overlook.

Busy Mat started with a simple hope:
to create meaningful, screen-free moments for families.

As a mum, I know how easy it is for screens to become part of daily life. So I wanted to create something that encourages children to slow down, create, imagine, colour, learn, and simply be present.

In this little video, you’ll see snippets of our journey —
from my hand-drawn sketches,
to our pop-ups,
to my eldest daughter helping out behind the booth,
and finally, the simple joy of colouring, wiping, and reusing our mats again and again.

Busy Mat is more than just a colouring mat to us.
It’s about connection, conversations during mealtimes, creativity, and making small memories together 🤍

Busy Mat started from a very simple place:
wanting more meaningful, screen-free moments around the table.

No design background.
No grand business plan.
Just me who loved drawing and wanted to create something special for her child.

Some of you might have noticed I went a little quiet here.

The past two weeks were… a lot.
Sick kids, long nights, and just trying to get through each day.

No structured play.
No “perfect” activities.
Just doing what we could.

And honestly, Busy Mat became one of those small things
that helped me slow things down at home.

No pressure to learn.
No need to prepare anything.

Just something familiar
when everything else felt a bit off.

If you’re in a season like this too
just know you’re not behind.

Sometimes, keeping things simple is already enough. 🤍
