Being a translator is often unappreciated — sometimes people have the wrong perception and reduce us to parrots or clerks, especially in a multilingual country like Malaysia. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. We’re the ones bridging cultures, translating ideas, perceptions, and beliefs from one world to another, most important of all we giving a voice to underrepresented authors.

I was deeply touched by the many beautiful souls I encountered on this amazing journey. In today’s materialistic world, it’s inspiring to see so many still driven by a passion for literature, pouring their heart and souls in nurture young talents. It was an honor to meet all of you.

6 months. That’s all it took for my most incredible mentor from the whole universe to transform me from someone with little knowledge of literature and publishing world into an emerging translator. I’ll be forever grateful to the for offering this life-changing mentorship programme and a huge thank you to Singapore National Library and for their unwavering support in making this possible.
