Precision Ski Pants Alteration – Keeping Every Detail Intact

Ski pants are designed with many technical details, and shortening them requires much more than simply cutting the length. Our team at The Alteration Studio carefully reconstructs every element so the garment looks and functions exactly as intended.

In this project, our seamstress shortened the ski pants while replicating the original bottom zipper construction. After adjusting the length, we carefully reinstalled the zipper panel to maintain the same factory finish and usability.

The photo shows the two off-cut fabric pieces removed during the shortening process — a small reminder of how much length was adjusted while preserving the garment’s original design.

Most importantly, we also reinstalled the inner snow gaiter, ensuring the pants continue to perform properly on the slopes by keeping snow out of your boots.

Restoring a 400-Year-Old Kimono: Preserving a Piece of History

Some garments are more than clothing — they are priceless works of art. Recently, our team at The Alteration Studio had the rare honour of restoring a 400-year-old vintage kimono belonging to a passionate antique collector. This extraordinary piece was meant to be framed and displayed in our client’s home as a treasured artwork.

Due to its age, the inner lining had completely disintegrated, leaving fragile fragments of fabric within the kimono. Our team first carried out a careful cleaning process to remove the deteriorated lining without disturbing the original outer textile. Every step required patience and precision to protect the delicate material.

Once the interior was stabilised, we hand-crafted a brand-new lining to replicate the original structure of the garment. Because of the kimono’s fragile condition, every stitch had to be done by hand. Machine sewing would have been far too harsh for such an aged textile.

Throughout the garment, many of the original threads had weakened or broken over time. Our seamstresses meticulously reinforced the stitches using carefully matched thread colours, ensuring the repairs remained nearly invisible while restoring the kimono’s structural integrity.

The final result was truly rewarding. In the video, our client proudly shares a photo of the beautifully restored kimono framed and displayed in his living room, where it can continue to be admired as the artwork it truly is.

Transforming a Jumpsuit into a Versatile Blouse

Our client adored the design of the top portion of her jumpsuit but found herself rarely wearing it as a full outfit. She wanted to separate it and turn the upper half into a standalone blouse — something more versatile for everyday styling.

Our Process

A well-loved vintage leather jacket recently came into our studio with multiple scratches, worn-out areas, torn sections and a broken sleeve seam. Years of wear had given it beautiful character — but it also needed careful intervention to prevent further damage.

Our client’s instruction was clear: preserve the authentic vintage look while strengthening the structure. The goal was not to make it look brand new, but to stabilise and restore it thoughtfully.

What We Did

• Patched the torn areas discreetly to prevent further tearing
• Reconstructed the broken sleeve seam for durability
• Remade the sleeve lining to restore comfort and functionality
• Reinforced weakened sections without removing its natural patina
