It started with a ride (as all good things often do).Before we knew it, we were supplying bib shorts to folks taking on the Transcontinental Race, 24 Hour Mountain Bike races and the legendary Paris-Brest-Paris. We’ve just returned from a 3-month bikepacking trip from Chiang Mai to Ho Chi Minh City via northern Laos — an incredible journey, and your bibs performed amazingly throughout. The drop-back was a game changer as a female navigating the scarcity of public toilets in SE Asia.

One story you might enjoy: heading south through Vietnam, we crossed paths with a group of Kiwi riders and chatted roadside for half an hour before going our separate ways. That evening I realised I’d left my bibs on a fence to dry at a beach resort we’d just left. I tracked down the New Zealanders, who went to reception — only to find the maintenance man about to burn them. Rescued just in time.

Getting them back involved a small allied operation: a British couple heading south collected them from the resort, then in Nha Trang put them unaccompanied on a local bus up to Dalat in the mountains where we were staying — saving me a 30km ride back down (and 2,000m of climbing). Miraculously, they arrived at our hotel. Vietnam has a remarkably efficient informal courier network using intercity buses — cheap, no tracking, but it works.

The Brits spent more on Grab fares finding the bus depot than the shipping actually cost, so I shouted them a night’s accommodation in Dalat when they arrived. Happy ending all round.
