So far to me, I feel that Singer sewing machine is one of the most reliable and sturdy in the market. I always like simple and fully mechanical machine that does straight stitches. It doesn't have to have complex features and functions.
Honestly, most people who buy a sewing machine will be using the straight stitch sewing 95% of the time. The simpler the machine, the easier to manage and maintain. The cost of repair is lower too.
As technology changes very rapidly, parts get obsolete very quickly. Nowadays, new sewing comes with plastic frame, and some common parts are made of plastic. This way, the consumers will have to buy the parts as it will be worn out over a short duration. When we can't get the parts for replacement, we will have to buy a brand new machine. This to me is a waste of resources and money. Our grandmother sewing machines are in fact the most reliable. Eg, we still can see many Singer 15k around in the market (manual foot pedal with a table top).
