Harald Gruendl is designer, design theorist and curator. He is partner at the design studio EOOS and director and founder of the Institute of Design Research Vienna (IDRV). He is specialized in the research and application of sustainable design strategies.

His talk will be about Social design be EOOS. Since 2008 EOOS is working in the field of social design. Beside the main focus on premium furniture design (e.g. Herman Miller Collection, Walter Knoll, Carl Hansen, bulthaup, Duravit,…) EOOS engages in social design challenges like a slum toilet for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation or do-it-together furniture for a refugee camp run by Caritas.

Kamila Boudova is leading Czech expert for fashion marketing and sustainable fashion. She has founded educational platform Moyomi and event SLOU Fashion Days. Kamila is fresh mum, and she is currently living between Paris, where she teaches at universities, and Prague, where she runs a business and publishes her first book, Fake Parisian.

Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka will be talking on how merging design with humanities in enriching designers awareness and this way helping to understand value of design: responsibility, ecological, educational, social..

She is the curator of numerous exhibitions, a journalist, an animator of events promoting design, member of programme boards of Polish and Central European festivals. Artistic director of School of Form (Design Faculty of University of Social Science and Humanities), and co-author of the School of Form curriculum.

Agnieszka was also part of international jury for annual Národná cena za dizajn :)

Our next speaker was born in Slovakia, and now has a studio in Rotterdam. The art of Tomas Libertiny Gabzdil marries the forces of nature to human artifacts.

His studio serves as ground for a constant research on experimental design, bringing higher meaning to manmade sculptural bodies and installations through their exposition to nature and its elements. This process of elaboration allows Libertiny to create a narrative where the natural and the artificial commune to form landscapes for the mind to explore the philosophical dilemmas that distress the human condition.

It is our pleasure to introduce you our first annual speaker of In the Midl Design Forum 2017, taking place on Friday 13th October :)

Seetal Solanki Parmar is the Founder and Director of materials research design studio Ma-tt-er. Researching, designing and educating about the materials that make up our world shaping the immediate, near and far future. Working with the likes of SPACE10, The Future Laboratory, DAZED, Design Museum London, Red Deer Architects, Selfridges, Royal College of Art, Venice Glass Week, Stella Artois and Water.org.

Material Matters
Most materials have an infinite lifecycle; they can be reused, reformed and redesigned with a new purpose. By harnessing the unexplored potential of materials we can implement social, economical and political change. By considering identity, life cycles and systems thinking, we propose an alternative approach to applying materials, encouraging a positive economic, environmental and social change, revealing the truth of how we live today and might live tomorrow.
