[honourable inspiration] audi avus quattro concept

While DOTY translates automotive culture into the language of fashion, our identity has always been shaped by some of the most iconic designs in automotive history. Among them is the Audi Avus Quattro Concept—a concept car from the early ’90s that still looks like it belongs to the future.

Unveiled in 1991, its low, wide two-door proportions, oversized wheels, and roof-mounted air intake created a sense of motion even at a standstill. Every element served a purpose, proving that engineering could be as expressive as design.

The Avus Quattro also introduced Audi Space Frame, an aluminum structure engineered for exceptional strength and lightness that would later become the foundation of Audi‘s production cars. Its polished, unpainted aluminum body wasn’t just a visual statement—it was an honest expression of the material itself, unlike anything else on the road at the time.

It also became the first concept developed around the idea of a W12 engine, years before the configuration reached production. Many of its design details, from the wheel design to styling cues later seen on Audi‘s high-performance models, began here.

The philosophy behind the Avus Quattro—its willingness to experiment, honesty in materials, and engineering precision—is one of the values that continues to inspire the way DOTY is created.
